Assassin's Creed: Revelations Shows Up On Facebook, Suddenly Disappears

Let the speculation on whatever crazy plot twist is coming this time begin.

Who needs magazine covers anymore? We have Facebook! Well, unless someone accidentally posts something to Facebook early, which appears to be the case with the next Assassin's Creed game.

The intrepid folks at NeoGAF--specifically, Enosh--screen captured what appears to be the first details on Assassin's Creed: Revelations. The links show a viral marketing campaign designed to unlock information on Revelations, which, despite my joke, is probably tied to an impending magazine cover.

Naturally, everything disappeared just as quickly as it arrived. What's Ubisoft have to say?

"No comment," said a company spokesperson.

Luckily, we have Assassin's Creed production manager Azaïzia Aymar answering questions about this on Twitter. Aymar isn't being secretive whatsoever, so it's possible the Facebook marketing only went live a little too early. If everything comes back online and your "Likes" are needed, I'll make sure and update.

Ubisoft already said another major Assassin's Creed was coming this year, though it's unclear whether we should be expecting another off-shoot like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood or a proper sequel. There is no three to be found here, though, suggesting the wait for that one is a little bit farther down the line.

I'm guessing (hoping) this is the 3DS game where Ezio travels to Masyaf to learn more about Altair. Seems like that'd be a fairly interesting story.

God damnit AC2 was a huge disappointment, so why would I want another game in this piece of shit series? Just give me another PoP 08 before everyone else begins to hate Ezio too.

I don't think there is going to be an Assassin's Creed 3 like everyone's talking about. They probably have some sort of ending in mind, but I think they've abandoned the original trilogy idea, and they're just going to stretch it out until then.

"Revelations" seems to imply that this will be a full on sequel that will answer some of the questions that the series has. Heres hoping its not set in Italy again, maybe revolutionary France in Paris?

exactly! i genuinely despise the concept of running franchises into the ground, and i would be especially pissed about this one because im a total AC fanboy, however i have nothing but admiration and respect for AC2 and Brotherhood because they're both top notch masterpieces with splendid gameplay/mission innovation, beautiful visuals, mindblowing story progression and extremely unique soundtracks

if the installments to come maintain this staggering quality, i don't mind a new AC games once every 6 months.

This was true for Splinter Cell until the 4th... AC game every year doesn't sound good to me considering they aren't fixing the atrocious combat system and difficulty of the game. As long as every game sells 9 million copies they won't be changing the formula anytime soon.

@Grissefar: How can you say AC2 was a dissapointment? The first one was a hit or miss, an original title but with lots of repetitive design. So I don't see why anyone would of been hyped for a sequel.People just wanted to see if they could improve I don't know what kind of wild expectations you had.Although now that I've played Brotherhood I can say it is leaps and bounds more better in story and gameplay terms.Graphics were improved too.
Oh and as much as I loved the PoP series(the original, but from what I heard the 08 version is similar to the classic ones just really easy and with cel shaded graphics)I doubt they will return to it anytime soon. They had a chance to do something with The Forgotten Sands but it turned out sub par.AC is their money maker and they still have lots of story to work with.

Well AC1 was good in terms of concept, but bad in terms of putting that concept into actual practicality.

And while I did personally like what it did I think that put simply it could've been much, much, much better. As in AC2 better.

So I also support the advice of starting the series from AC2, because not everybody has the time to play every game, so the games do play should be really good, and really fun/emersive or both.

Not to mention that as much as i... adore, AC2, nothing beats AC1's theme and setting. they effing nailed the grim crusades feel.

I think I'd be ok  with one other offshoot, so long as it's not set in Italy and features Ezio, that shit is done.

Climbing: slow and sluggish, when I expected it to be quick like Infamous or flashy like PoP 08.

Combat: slow and sluggish, when I want either responsive and challenging like Ninja Gaiden or slow and flashy like PoP 08.

Story: I tried but I could not give a shit, sorry, and it didn't seem like Ubisoft could either.

It's might not help that I didn't play/compare it to AC1, which is supposedly a bigger shit. Such is the human mind.

Ubisoft should be careful not to go overkill with this franchise. 3 games in 3 years is a lot.

It's not Assassin's Creed III, so I'm guessing we're getting some more Ezio. Which I'm totally fine with. Given the crazy note that Brotherhood ended on, I'm totally ready for another one of these games. I can't get enough.

Should we just stop numbering sequels?  After 2 it just sounds kinda dumb, and often all it does is make a lot of potential customers think they can't enjoy the game if they haven't played every game before it.

The industry as a whole also needs to get a lot better at getting new players up to speed.  It should be standard that somebody can pick up a game at any point in a franchise and expect to be told in some form what the hell is going on.  They shouldn't have to go to a dry wiki page or whatever.  Mass Effect 3 having 'interactive comics' for the first two games is the sort of thing I'm talking about - that seems like a very smart move to me.
