Bethesda Working on Big Ol' Skyrim Patch, But No Timetable

If that texture issue is bothering you that much, it's gonna be a waiting game.

When Bethesda will get around to making the poor buffalo as bad ass as Skyrim's horse?
When Bethesda will get around to making the poor buffalo as bad ass as Skyrim's horse?

There’s probably an argument to be made that we cut Bethesda Game Studios a little too much slack about the issues that plague the launch of every one of its products, but the games are just so damn good, so...we overlook it.

This is why I’ve put 25 hours into Skyrim and don’t seem to care about a fairly serious texture issue!

That said, Bethesda has publicly admitted there are plenty of kinks to work out. Pete Hines, the company’s VP of marketing and public relations, told his Twitter followers that a patch is coming.

“We are continuing to work on an update for all platforms to address issues any bugs and [performance] issues we can,” he said. “We will fix as much as we can for your platform. I don't know if it will fix ‘your’ bug. Takes a while to test/fix/regress. Hang in there.”

At the moment, there is “no word yet on when it’s coming out,” but as the company is still actively monitoring submissions from the community, it’s possible your issue could still be flagged and included in an upcoming patch.

If you were expecting that patch in the next 24 hours, however, that may prove too optimistic.

I wouldn't say the texture issue is bothering me so much as the arrow stuck in my character's face refusing to leave until he gets hit with another arrow, in which case it will override the face arrow and become stuck where it lands on my character.

As soon as I uninstalled the game, then loaded up another game (To clear the cache. could've done it manually, but this was quicker) and, just to be sure, fast-travelled my character to another area, the texture issue was gone. I honestly didn't realize how bad it was till it was gone. Didn't know the signs were legible, didn't know my guy had veins on his hand, or that tavern door was decorated, etc.

But yeah, completely fixed, and there's almost no noticeable difference in load times or anything. So, I'm good.

I am, however, getting a fair number of freezing incidents. I've had the game freeze up completely on me four or five times now. It's happened pretty much once every night I've played. Most times it's when the game is loading after going through a door or fast-travelling, but twice it's just been as I was walking around, or after a fight in a dungeon when nothing was going on.

Maybe the glorification of Beteshda by many people is one the problems.

They recognize, they can pull through with almost anything.

Telling lies about the source of problems, if it's them, or the platform,

or even sourcing out the QA to their paying costumers.

Constructive criticism and differentiated feedback is

needed to stay in touch in with reality.

And reality is, what you can get away with.

I have some serious PC issues. The game tends to freeze for 3-5 seconds when you are traveling in big areas (seems to be mostly a XP issue according to the forums). Windows will completely crash if I spend too much time in the pause menu, I had similar issues with New Vegas. There was one bug that stopped me from continuing the main quest line and I had to unpack some audio files in the installation folder manually to get it working... I have played the game for 30 hours and I'm loving it. Apparently I will put up with just about anything for a Bethesda game.

I actually think it kind of silly to expect a game with the scope of Skyrim launching without bugs. Fortunately i haven´t ran into any problems in my 12 hours or so with the game so far. The game looks gorgeous on the ultra setting and i´m just really taking in te enviroment while sneaking through the forest in the starting area,

The texture issue is not a big deal. The loading times are totally playable from the disc.

That buffalo is modeled after a highland cow, which is actually pretty badass for a cow in real life, but if you're expecting a buffalo, I guess I can see how you'd be disappointed.

I hope they'll finish the patch and then roll it out ASAP on the master platform for the master race and the PS3 rather than wait and release the patch at the same time on all platform because that means it'll be two or more weeks delayed because that's how long Microsoft takes to give something an opinion for the 360.

On the PS3 I'm seeing NPCs shift up and down between the floor and six-inches under the floor. The animation system is rough with most NPCs looking like stiff marionettes. I have had one or two enemies that where supposed to be there drop into place a few seconds later then they should have to seem seamless. Moreover, so much of the game seem to have a "toon-shaded" look to it. The first one with NPCs shifting between planes is without a doubt a glitch. The poor animation system you can just blame on the lack of RAM in consoles for games this modern. The toon-shading is just a poor stylistic choice. Some of the story specific NPCs look terrible, some are ugly in a way that important characters shouldn't be when you have to look at them so often.

No timetable? Makes sense, tons of things are broken in this game, but I'm not quite sure if that was intended or not. This is Bethesda after all.

One more reason why the PC version is the best to purchase.  I do feel sorry for the people that bought the inferior console version.

So long as the game is playable and the glitches are only cosmetic, i don't mind waiting a few weeks for a patch.

I've encountered fewer bugs with launch-day Skyrim than I have with an Oblivion that's gone through 4 years of patching (2 by Bethesda, 2 by modders). GOTY.

Playing the PS3 version, about 25 hours playtime and a savegame file of about 6.5MB. No big problems other than the occasional stutter and one hard crash/lockup. Found that disabling all the auto-save options also seems to make the gmae a bit smoother as well..

As great as the game may be the significant bugs (crashing, unable to finish missions, etc) are unacceptable. Which is why I'm waiting a couple months to even start it.

Bugs like this in Fallout killed the experience for me.

It's like if you met this amazing girl and she was perfect in every way, but occasionally and unexpectedly she projectile vomited all over the place.

Easy to overlook the textures if you can actually play the damn thing. Seems many PS3 players are reporting game-crippling FPS problems after a certain savefile size/gaming session length...

I have encountered 3 bugs in my 76 hours of play.

1. My eyes were glowing after casting a certain shout. The glow is supposed to disappear when the shout wears off, but it just stayed there. I fixed this by using the console command to make a new character mid-game.
2. A friggin horse fell out of the sky and landed in front of me. Laughter did ensue.
3. A story-dragon-fight bugged out and the dragon was stuck upside down in mid-air. I think this happened because I actually killed the dragon and then died immediately afterward, so when it loaded my game the dragon was bugged. Reloading an earlier save fixed this.

Oh but this doesn't mention the fact that the game will randomly CTD at any point every few hours.

I think I've encountered a true "game breaking" glitch in the form of a broken quest. The quest is from Urag gro-Shub in the College of Winterhold to find three stolen books. The first book on the list he gives you I already have, yet the game does not recognize me as having it when I go to talk to him. Yet it does recognize the book if I try to drop it or store it as it says "You cannot get rid of quest items." Huh. OK. And the kicker is every time I select the quest it keeps directing me to Valtheim Towers (where the book is located). However, I've already been there as a previous quest tasked me with killing the bandit leader at that location. I looted the area and picked up that book along the way, and I did all this before I got the stolen book quest. But now that I have the book quest I can't turn the book in and it's not even recognizing me as having it; therefore I cannot progress at all in that quest to find the remaining two books because it still doesn't count that I found the first! Grrrr...this is VERY annoying and I don't know how to fix it or even if it can be fixed.
