Deus Ex: Human Revolution Pre-Order DLC And LE Set Announced

If Daidalos pre-purchased his wax and got that strength bonus, we'd be telling a whole different story about Íkaros' flight.

In Deus Ex: Human Revolution, you'll unravel a global conspiracy and presumably rub against that techno future's grain. A special 10-extra-dollar Limited Edition version of the game has been revealed for those interested in dropping a wee bit of extra coin for the usual array of exclusives. Also, special pre-order bonus DLC packs have been announced for those who may want to go the extra mile and reserve their copies through the brick-and-mortar equivalents of The Man.

Let's talk about the LE pack first, lovingly dubbed the "Augmented Edition." In the set, you'll get a 40-page art book, a "Making Of" DVD that also includes the game's soundtrack and "special trailers," premium packaging, and a motion graphic novel.

This edition, pictured just below, will be sold on release day for $59.99 on PC and $69.99 on consoles.

== TEASER ==As for the pre-order DLC? GameStop's exclusive is the "Explosive Mission Pack," a bit of content that features a new mission with a "special cameo appearance of an original Deus Ex character." It'll also give you the Linebacker G-87 multiple shot grenade launcher, the M-28 Utility Remote-Detonated Explosive Device, and something called the Automatic Unlocking Device.

Other participating retailers will be offering the "Tactical Enhancement Pack," which offers extra in-game cash (credits), the Longsword Whisperhead Extreme Range Sniper Rifle, and the Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is due out on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in "early 2011." GameStop suggests that the release date is, specifically, March 8, 2011.

Nice!

Edit: Hm... now I actually feel kind of bad writing here just to complete the AV Club quest. :/

Will probably get the le. That's a lot of shit for only ten dollars more.

Posted by Metzo_Paino

I hope the Augmented Edition includes the   Tactical Enhancement Pack &   Explosive Mission Pack DLC.

Posted by bucky

OH FUCK.
I am probably unreasonably excited for this game.

Posted by FritzDude

Fuck Gamestop and it's pre-order exclusives... A whole freakin' mission only if you pre-order it from the fucking store?

Posted by Soviet666

I hate pre-order DLCs :). Well, I hate when we get overpowered stuff like in New Vegas. "
Longsword Whisperhead Extreme Range Sniper Rifle" and "Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun" sounds as bad as Weathered 10mm pistol.

Posted by sodiumCyclops

Probably won't end up seeing something to this extent for pre-order in New Zealand, but will still wait and see.

I really like art books as bonus content. I hope we get some kinda of alternate costume or something.

Posted by radioactivez0r

While I may or may not buy the game, I do appreciate that the extra stuff is only $10 more on all platforms.  That seems like a decent value, as opposed to Castlevania's craptacular $20 markup for less.

Posted by ESREVER

Well then, I guess I won't be getting this on Steam...

I hate GameStop, but I'm forced to pre-order from them for the content. I hate what they're doing, but am too weak to stand up to it.

oh shit JC Denton DLC?

I'll take that over console exclusive DLC bullshit. Ubisoft.

Bought the frist two Deux Ex games on Steam a few months ago. Still need to play them, though. Hopefully I'll be able to finish them before the third one gets released.

TAKE MY MONEY TAKE IT!!!

Why are Daedalus and Icarus misspelled?

You could just google it. It takes like five seconds.

Posted by Karkarov

Sign me up for a limited edition, the soundtrack and making of discs are enough for me the other crap is just icing on the cake.

Posted by OneKillWonder_

JC's cameo will be the reason I get this from GS. I hate all this pre-order DLC shit these days, too, but that's just too interesting for me to pass up.

Posted by thomasnash

in america are you guys taught transliterated greek spellings for dedalus and icarus or is the tagline spelling just pretentious?

I'll take Pre-order DLC any day over that project 10 dollar bullshit. Fuck you EA. I still don't understand why people are so pissed off over pre-order DLC it's not like you're actually losing anything by not pre-ordering. Stop acting like it's such a big deal people!

It says an original Deus Ex character, so it could be anyone from the first game, not specifically JC Denton.  If you played DX 2 you might remember where JC Denton ends up depending on what ending you got, and which one this game considers true.

@ESREVER: JUst wait a few days then download the small file from the net that includes ALL the stupid DLC and install it for your steam version...

Buying retail specific is retarded, and I hate that it divides up content (however small or insignificant it may be). This kinda junk basically assures I buy the PC version cause then I can just grab all the other little things, like ALL the pre-order guns for new vegas etc
Posted by GoldSoundz

For only $10 more?  Bought.  I just hope it's not too dumbed down, and judging by the gameplay videos I've seen that doesn't seem to be a problem.

Edited by OneKillWonder_
@DukeTogo:  The GameSpot article specifically mentioned that it was going to be JC in the extra mission, so I'm inclined to believe that. And while I haven't played all of Invisible War and have no idea how JC factors into that game's story, Human Revolution is a prequel, not a sequel, so that has little bearing on his alleged appearance in this game.
Posted by ESREVER
@DJJoeJoe: But I would like the art book as well. It's not just the pre-order bonuses I'm interested in, but the LE swag as well. So I think I'm better off just buying a retail copy... from GameStop.

Worst trend of 2010 continues into 2011 and beyond ugh...

Is it just me or does his head look too small for his body? And "EXTREME LONG RANGE SNIPER RIFLE" that he uses to shoot baddies that are basically at his feet.

Edited by ProfessorEss

Torn as always. Am I the only the one who struggles with pre-order bonus offers?

I like the sound of the tactical pack, but I always worry that I'll mess up the game starting difficulty level that the developers had in mind by using potentially over-powered pre-order bonuses.

You are missing the point. In order to get a mission that are in fact a part of the final product, i need to pre-order it from Gamestop. If it was a general pre-order for evey store, Ok, but this is BS. I can understand small pre-order bonuses from each store like skins and a new weapon or some sort, and i can understand more content for a new copy, but this is getting out of hand. In couple of years probably 20% of the fucking game can only be unlocked when you pre-order it at Gamestop. Fuck this fuck.

I want this game NOW

@Bones8677: What's wrong with the Project 10 Dollars stuff?
Posted by MrPilkington

I sure hope this game has a steam install on the PC version, because this retail LE edition is too good to pass up for me.
Posted by TheHT

Oh wow that's annoying (the GameStop preorder bonus). I would like an art book though and am defintely gonna pick it up, so maybe I'll preorder.

But that's the worst for cautious Deus Ex fans who want to find out how the game compares to the first two before they take the plunge.

Posted by RsistncE

If I get the PC edition you can bet your ass that I'll be "pirating" the pre-order bonus DLC. Gamestop can get fucked.

Can't wait for this game.

Nice edition, hopefully it will be available in europe as well.

It's not part of the final product. It's additional content. You lose nothing if you don't buy it. Nor are you forced to buy it. If you don't want to buy it, then don't fuckin' buy it. If you want to play it, then buy it. It's that simple.

" @Bones8677: What's wrong with the Project 10 Dollars stuff? "
Without going into a long winded rant. Which I will some other time. Project 10 dollar is a feature that begs the question of whether games are a goods or service. For decades they have been classified as a good, which means they can be traded and resold. A service means that they can't and that we are paying for the privilege to play them. For example, your TV is a good, your cable is a service.

Project 10 Dollar says that we need to pay a service to play these goods. Afterall, who wants to play Madden on single player? The multiplayer is the the primary feature for the title.

However, EA is not taking on the responsibilities required for a service provider. Do you think that Madden 11 servers will still be up and running 10 years or even 5 years from now? Of course not, but a service provider has to keep all servers up and running, because people are now paying to use them.

Well, I was taught Daedalus and Icarus, so I'm gonna go with pretentious.

also, going to express a radical opinon here, but I think retailer-exclusive preorder bonuses are fuckin' dumb. A mission? JC cameo? sure, probably not a story important mission, and I don't really give a shit about a JC cameo, but it does sound like a serious piece of content that is being restricted to one retailer. Well, maybe it will suck and/or they will release it for some dollars afterwards.

and also
@Bones8677: Well, the part you are paying for is a service -- they are running servers. You can play the offline stuff without paying that fee, even if you get the game used, so that part is a good and can be traded like one. Your complaint about them taking servers offline is valid, but that is an issue with the quality of service, not whether or not it is one. If you don't think the service is worth it, don't pay for it, same with any other service. Also, I don't really see why games can't be treated like services anyway. I assume you are against steam, since you can't treat the games as goods, but I love it.

So you are telling me that the developers made a sizeable mission with a cameo character that will probably have voice acting and everything, only for Gamestop consumers? Sounds to me like a 300kb key to open an already content on the disc, and if that's the case, yes, i will be missing out on content. But we'll see.
Posted by Underwhelmed
@Riboflavin:  I doubt it will be JC, more likely it is Tracer Tong, or Walter Simons.
Edited by coaxmetal
@Underwhelmed: oh, oops. Misread it as "special appearance of the original Deus Ex character." That makes a difference. Yea, those sound reasonable. Or it could just be some super minor character that most people who played it barely remember.

Exactly my thoughts. Fucking Pre-order shit has to stop. No chance for us living in Australia.

This pre-order stuff is getting ridiculous.  I'm just going to get it on Steam after reviews go up.

Posted by Krystal_Sackful

I find it really funny that that double barreled shotgun has a crazy futuristic holographic ammo counter just to tell you there are two damn shells in the thing. I think that would be easy enough to remember.

Posted by Heli0s

If the DLC includes a cameo from ole' JC count me in.

Posted by bybeach

Why this is happening just confuses me. And I already know I'm going to, probably that is, get the pc disk version from an online retailer. Just what works for me in the overarching capitalist grind that is going on here.

Extremely pretentious. We use the Latin spelling like other English speaking countries.

Daedalus and Icarus are the Latin spellings, which English adopted. Daidalos and Íkaros are from the original Greek, so they aren't exactly wrong, just archaic.

Pre-order bonuses, no. Cool artwork books, soundtrack and making of documentation packed in, yes.
