Final Fantasy XIV Open Beta Postponed

You didn't tell your office that you were "sick" this morning, right? Throw on some pants and redact it. The Final Fantasy XIV open beta will, in fact, not be launching as Square Enix said it would this August 31. The dev team has spotted a few "critical bugs" in the game and the test has been pushed back as a result.

The news that things weren't going as planned comes on the heels of the beta sign-up site going down for a period of time. When it came back, Square Enix left a message stating that the open beta test was being "postponed" for an unspecified time. It also noted the confirmation of said critical bugs (via Massively).

not surprising. almost every MMO has some kind of hiccups before, and even after, launch.

Waiting for the PS3 version anyway. Glad they're working out the kinks.

I've been in the closed beta for awhile. Don't get your hopes up guys, this ones pretty bad.

This game is awesome. Can't wait for more to get to play it!

Not happy about this. I was hoping to get a feel for it before the game comes out.

Not interested in this at the moment, but was looking forward to trying out the Beta to see what it's like.

is anyone actually shocked that square postponed this or anything for that matter? i guess i am fortunate as i have no desire to play this.

Now I'm starting to thing this will be the biggest MMO trainwreck so far.

I just want to play this because of the pretty CG ladies.

Well, it is a final fantasy game. If it didn't come out late, it wouldn't be a true fantasy.

I would love to see the guys do with this open-beta like they did with STO. I'm excited to see what SE has done with the core FFXI gameplay.

Looking forward to this game, but would gladly pass up OB time if it means they can have a smoother release.

Was in the closed beta. Never actually got to play it though. Got bored of trying a while back. just gonna wait for release now.

I will bet anyone anywhere 1000000 dollars that game doesnt come out on September 30.

Well, its better that they acknowledge the bugs and are prepared to postpone the open beta last minute rather than just ignoring the bugs and pretending they aren't there. Sucks for those that want to play the beta but hey, its better they do this now, rather then when you are paying for it.

MMOs... ALWAYS better late than buggy.  Good call.

Though my interest in the game is fading i still haven't canceled my order.

Their business decisions as of late-- maybe development decisions-- are highly questionable.  I am not sure how they expect to fix these "critical" errors, hold an Open Beta, and then release it in 21 days. Although, Funcom released Age of Conan in a rather buggy state, maybe SquareEnix will do the same. If Final Fantasy XIII was any indication of their waining track record, I would expect them to put a little more pride in their work. Possibly even delay the game until October. Do some extensive bug testing/play testing, hold an Open Beta, and then release it around Halloween-- I know they have they money. I haven't bought a Final Fantasy game since IX, and even that put a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe they are only interested in seeing the money signs and figures.  
 
 ... I'd give my left leg to get Sakaguchi-san back at SquareEnix. Ok, maybe a toe.

If Final Fantasy 14 is anything like Final Fantasy 11 in terms of game play, expect it to be very slow paced with mediocre writing.
 
To be honest, based on my previous experience with Square's Final Fantasy MMOs I'm not excited for the beta at all.  I'm putting my money on Bioware's The Old Republic.

Too bad, I was looking forward to setting up my game name and server for the final version just in case closed beta members don't get that same privelage. 
 
They've done a really good job listening to feedback and making very quick changes to the game's mechanics over the past few months of closed testing, so I'm still sure the final version will be as fun as my time in the testing has been.

if it's anywhere near as poor as 11 it can stay in beta for all I care.

Square must have realized that the game is horrendous, and are just buying some time to get a few more blind pre-orders in.

LOL, I feel that there will not be a beta at all. If the game will launch in 30. September, then when there will be time for open beta? 

im downloading all the patches for the client right now.
