Game of Thrones Should Premiere Next Month

The game's Steam page teases a release date in the coming weeks.

No Caption Provided

As details on Telltale's Game of Thrones series have materialized, we're still left wondering when it's coming out. Telltale promised it's "soon," but the game's Steam page gets us a little closer: December.

Of course, that leaves out which day it'll launch, but with Tales From the Borderlands coming out tomorrow, it won't be surprising to see Telltale turn its eye towards Game of Thrones in two or three weeks.

Earlier this year, the studio swapped between The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. With both over, it looks like Game of Thrones and Tales From the Borderlands will be our dueling episodic adventures.

As with all Telltale games, I'll buy it when all the episodes are out. If it turns out good of course.

Im concerned that the art style in this one might prevent a connection to the story/characters like in Walking Dead. Its jarring to see the video game version of Peter Dinklage after ive seen the real one. Whereas someone like Lee or Clementine only exist as the animated characters so i just accept them and it doesn't break the immersion.

@superdomino: The walking dead also had reccuring characters in typical cartoon form though, i imagine the same will happen with this one, they will be there and you will interact with them but they won't be the main focus of the game.

If this game focuses only on the characters we already know it's not going to be very good. I'm hoping it will feature some familiar characters to get things rolling but focus the actual story on some new characters and their own story. Similar to how Telltale's Walking Dead had Glenn but only as a kind of springboard to show you when and where the story took place in the grand scheme of other the other stories.

I worry about the art style. With a novel series like ASOIAF, there is a timeless universe being created. The stuff that comes out as a companion to the novels should try and be just as timeless. Like the games. I would have gone with a more painterly style so that it could stand the test of time a little better than this game will. Will people even be able to look at that game in ten years and want to play it with the style it has? IDK.

I can't do it. I just can't play any Game of Thrones games. I tried with that RPG that came out a few years back that I'd heard good things about (story-wise anyways), but I just want to watch the show with nothing else in mind. When the show's done I'll definitely give these games a shot (as well as read the books).

Looking forward to Tales from the Borderlands though. Looks like a fun little space western romp. Bah, I should really get around to playing Wolf Among Us too. Everything about that looks right up my alley.

Maybe Maester Martin from the 2012 Game of Thrones RPG will make a appearance!

I am willing to give this game a shot I just hope it doesn't have technical issues. I played the Walking Dead on 360 with all those game crashing bugs and I was very annoying and did halt the game's momentum and story telling many times.

Man, Telltale really needs to get better with scheduling their releases. Sure, it takes time to figure out the production pipeline, but after so many times around the block, it's sad they haven't gotten any better at it.

Has it been confirmed that Tales from the Borderlands comes out tomorrow? On the Steam page it lists it as coming out in November.

After Season 2 of the Walking Dead I might wait a bit on other Telltale games. Even though I LOVED Wolf Among Us as well, it would have been much easier to play it in episodic format over the course of a week or two. Having a couple months between installments made me miss a lot of stuff I had to go back and reread.

Yeah, it makes it seem like they have no confidence in their game and, by extension, makes you think the game itself isn't so hot either.

But it already is pretty painterly, I think this will probably hold up better in 10 years than, say, Kevin Spacey in CoD, which just goes for 100% realism and doesn't quite get there.

Basically, to me it seems like they do it because they get away with it. They literally have no competition in this space right now, so they get to trickle out the episodes whenever they want, and people still lop it up.

I think it's more likely that the episodes come in super hot, which would encourage them not to nail down a release date until absolutely necessary.

Yeah. They have absolutely no incentive to wait. The longer they wait, the more disinterested people become. It's a matter of being vague so GoT fans don't get super pissed when they have to push it back a week.

Interesting. The first season of The Walking Dead was incredible but Telltale's efforts post that first season have seen mixed results. Hopefully this game is great!

Well every other game/movie/tv-show out there has release dates set from way back when and it seems to work fine for them. Thing is, as a fan of Telltale's other work, I want to look forward to whatever else they have in the works, but when they announce a project and don't talk about it until the very end, you can't help but feel like they're taking cues from the poor communication Valve has with their community.

@orshick: Valve has "poor communication" for the same reason. They have a thousand projects going on and have to decide what to work, what to stall, and what to cancel. Not giving continual feedback to your prospective buyers prevents them going crazy when you end up changing some or all of it.

@development: I get why they do it, I just think it's super irresponsible. Imagine the shit storm that would happen if George Lucas never put out the third movie in one of his trilogies, after talking about them being trilogies all along, and never said a peep about it.

Does anyone know if this will spoil any parts from the show? I don't have HBO so I have to wait until Feb 17 for the Blu ray to be released to see Season 4.

@benmo316: I would assume so, absolutely. Don't know where in the timeline there show takes place but with the characters they have listed as being in the show, I don't see how they can't spoil at least some of it, that is if you have never watched the show of course.

I highly recommend Wolf Among Us, especially now that all of the episodes are available. Some of the individual episodes weren't very satisfying on their own, but the overall experience was some of the most fun I've had with a game this year. Definitely better than The Walking Dead season 2.

By the way Tales from the Borderlands is available now on steam. Just played through the first episode. The game feels pretty great so far.
