Gran Turismo 5 Creator Outlines Possible Post-Release Updates

Because Gran Turismo 5 needs more content, obviously.

It took six years to get Gran Turismo 5 into people's hands, and the generous amount of content in the game, to some degree, validates the long development cycle. But even after six years, creator Polyphony Digital wasn't able to get all that it wanted into the racer. Studio head honcho Kazunori Yamauchi is using his Twitter account to talk about his ideas for features that might end up in future updates to the game, the first of which he says is scheduled for release at some point this month.

Andriasang has translated a select group of these tweets, some of which are responses to players who are requesting for more features to be put into the game. For example, a user (or users) want YouTube video uploading functionality. Oddly, this was actually in the game at one point, "but it required a lot of time for rendering" because of memory restrictions, so it was cut. Yamauchi says the studio is, however, looking into dropping it back in at some point.

No Caption Provided
Yamauchi also said that it's possible a "no HUD" option might be added down the road, as well as new Lounge functionality and a credits and experience system for online play. We apparently won't see the latter feature (which happens to be the most exciting of what has been translated) for a while.

Madness? I don't know. It's obvious that Polyphony Digital wanted to put as much as it possibly could into GT5, and it looks like even the cutting room floor stuff is back on the table post-release. As long as the content works, I don't see the harm. Who can argue with more bang for their buck?

It's not that hard, if you can do it in real life you can do it in a game. But I guess that's the relation between those who prefer cockpit view to those that don't. "

I think you have the ability to adjust your field of vision in cockpit view.

Sadly, they can't fix all the big issues with the game itself.  It'll forever look like a combo PS2/3 game.

I agree with you, probably performance will be better. I just don't like cockpit view and the feedback issue plays a part in my dislike of that view.

@Don_Prudenzio:  I've noticed that a lot of people who are new to driving sims prefer Chase cam. IMO, your lap times will suffer because of that view however.

I really had to work on spacial awareness to become better at these games.

Maybe it does. But to be completely honest, I also prefer a more third-person view when playing car games. I don't know actually why, but maybe it's because of the feedback. The feedback you get when driving a car in real life, which I unfortunately have to do everyday to get to work, is definitely not the same as in a game. Despite the level of simulation in gran turismo. But that's just my personal experience.

Because I always drive my car to work from behind the wheel. So in a driving sim does it not make more sense to drive i the way you would actually drive he car?

I seriously don't understand why they didn't keep their online structure from prologue, not only did it allow you to earn credits while playing online but it also effectively tiered the games based on the capability of your car.

I don't get the whole premium car thing still. I hate to play the comparison game, but in Forza 3 every car had a modeled interior (to a very reasonable detail level without being a CRAZY PERSON) and with cockpit view. Is there something drastically different with GT5's cockpits or interiors? They didn't look that different in the quick look.

@Binman88: I am with you.  I don't see where all the hate is coming from.  There are more menus than there really needs to be, and some stuff is in odd places, but people are getting so worked up over this.  People need to just chill the fuck out.

@Binman88:

One thing I cant stand is how some options are located in seemingly "wrong" places.  For example, the # of laps for an arcade race is set under the general options menu (where you tweak video and controller settings). WTF wouldn't they give you the option, or even MAKE you choose the # of laps before each arcade race? I'd want to change the # of laps depending upon the track , type of car etc.

The settings for your camera in photo mode reset every time you exit. annoying

It generally takes forever to move from one menu to the other. Unloading a car from the garage, getting it upgrades, getting oil changed etc just take forever. They should let you tweak cars from the garage if you ask me.

Can you save the game in middle of a championship series? I think GT4 let you do that.

These are just a few from the top of my head

You really think it's that bad? Which areas of the interface did you find unusable or inconsistent exactly? I'm not trying to be smart, I'd genuinely like to know what it is the UI is doing that's ruffling everyone's feathers, because apart from the annoying load screens, I have no complaints about the UI at all. Everything seems fairly straightforward and obvious to me.

Only thing thats needed are things like leaderboards, and earning money for wins online (or have a wager matches). Eitherway just some way that ensures GT5 is fun to play online so the game will keep surviving.

never thought I'd say a GT game looks like garbage..but GT 5 looks like shit.  From the year long load times, to the copy/pasted half-ass cars...

this will be the first GT I do NOT purchase (other then GT Prologue but that doesn't count..it was a paid demo).  What a bunch of shit.

I'm not one to nitpick a game to death, but all I really want changed are those blocky shadows. They get distracting. Maybe some better sound effects. But overall, can't really complain.

Also after a little more research it looks like they have a GT5 bundle at Best Buy. So I guess look out for that too for anyone looking for a bundle stateside. "
blah, bad deal, for that price i can just buy the PS3 and GT5 separately for less...and don't have to suffer the embarrassment of owning Grown Ups on Bluray.

I want more races.  With the number of cars and classifications, it feels like there aren't enough races for them.  It feels like a waste to drop a ton of money into a car and then use it for only 2 or 3 races.
