Grasshopper Manufacture's Shadows of The Damned Announced

Suda 51's next title will take us to Hell and back.

Grasshopper Manufacture's recently unveiled Shadows of the Damned is being billed as a "psychological action thriller" by its publisher EA, but the same marketing materials make it sound like more of an action-heavy revenge title. Shadows of the Damned, according to a recent press release, revolves around the exploits of a leather-clad biker named Garcia. He's a demon killer who is tasked with rescuing his girl after demons with some displaced humours snatch her. Promises of over-the-top action have been made, in addition to "gruesome" boss battles, both of which will require the powers of light to combat.

Shadows of the Damned is being co-created by No More Heroes creator Goichi Suda and Resident Evil brain Shinji Mikami. You can see the influence of the latter specifically in the game's in over-the-shoulder perspective, which is similar to that of Resident Evil 4. And while man-on-demon combat seems to be the game's true focus, there will be other things to do. The aforementioned press release makes a special mention of "demented puzzles" being incorporated into the game.

Shadows of the Damned is slated for a summer 2011 release on the Xbox 360 and PS3. As Kotaku notes in its announcement article, this game appears to be the very one EA mentioned back in August 2008 when it teased a Suda and Mikami co-created horror title.
