Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock Announced

I never pegged Gene Simmons as the narrator type.

Though most of the juicy details already came out via Nintendo Power, it's now totally official: Guitar Hero 6 is coming--and it's in the form of Neversoft's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. According to the press release blasted this morning, Warriors of Rock will boast a few fresh features that might separate it from the rest of the Guitar Hero herd, namely, the "all-new, story-driven Quest Mode," its Quick Play+ feature, and its redesigned "rock-inspired" guitar. The game will feature, as always, a tracklist of guitar-driven songs (more on that later), drop-in and out party play, and the usual set of instruments: drums, bass, microphone, and guitar.

Former KISS bassist and all-around disgusting dude, Gene Simmons, will be the narrator of the game's Quest Mode which has players stopping a mystical brute named "The Beast" from destroying rock and roll. The mode will have realistic venues, like the CBGB, but it will also have cartoon-inspired fantasy settings like "molten fields of lava." Quest Mode also has its own original song written by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine called "Sudden Death."

Quick Play+, the other new feature, is a single and cooperative set of challenges that has the potential to provide "literally hundreds of hours of replayability," according to the press release. In a nutshell, it's a series of 13 challenges that that will be supported in all the songs on the disc, as well as "most" DLC songs from Guitar Hero World Tour and beyond. The names and details of all the challenges weren't revealed today, however, three of the thirteen were announced: Band Streak, High Score, Power Challenge. The latter challenge, as explained, is a "get the highest score" deal with the twist of being able to use unlockable "warrior powers."

In addition to all of that information, Activision busted out a partial track listing for Warriors of Rock which includes artists KISS, The Cure, Rammstein, and Muse. Here's that.

  • AFI -- “Dancing Through Sunday”
  • Avenged Sevenfold -- “Bat Country”
  • Black Sabbath -- “Children Of The Grave”
  • Buzzcocks -- “What Do I Get?”
  • Children Of Bodom -- “If You Want Peace...Prepare For War”
  • The Cure -- “Fascination Street”
  • Def Leppard -- “Pour Some Sugar On Me (Live)”
  • Dethklok -- “Bloodlines”
  • DragonForce -- “Fury of the Storm”
  • Drowning Pool -- “Bodies”
  • Foo Fighters -- “No Way Back”
  • Foreigner -- “Feels Like The First Time”
  • Jane’s Addiction -- “Been Caught Stealing”
  • KISS -- “Love Gun”
  • Megadeth -- “Sudden Death”
  • Metallica & Ozzy Osbourne -- “Paranoid (Live)”
  • Muse -- “Uprising”
  • My Chemical Romance -- “I'm Not Okay (I Promise)”
  • Queen -- “Bohemian Rhapsody”
  • Rammstein -- “Waidmanns Heil”
  • The Rolling Stones -- “Stray Cat Blues”
  • Silversun Pickups -- “There’s No Secrets This Year”
  • Slayer -- “Chemical Warfare”
  • ΖΖ Top -- “Sharp Dressed Man (Live)”

If you're still wondering about the guitar, so am I. No assets for it were released, but it's described as a "show-stopper" by Activision. I wonder if it can accidentally eat bats...

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is slated for release on the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.

I see them making guitar hero till the end of time.
Why not spice it up and rip off other IPs like Brutal Legend? Oh shit they totally are!?

Maybe like an actual Guitar Hero story though, not literally ripping off the medi-evil scene. Like make a character, and progress by buying music lessons (give you more instruments to work with in the create music mode) or music books to unlock more songs?

Instead of straight up giving us more songs to play, give us a choice as to what we want to play next. Having far more songs than are required to play through the story so we can miss the unfavorable tracks instead of making us play through all sorts of garbage to get to some good tracks would be stellar additions.

Sabbath, Bodom, Megadeth, Slayer and Bohemian Rhapsody?  This might be the first Guitar Hero game I pick up since 3.  I'll wait to see the full track list, though.

Activision may have not achieved at getting back Brutal Legend but that doesn't mean they won't be releasing their own version of it. I mean really? What an embarrassing rip-off.
