It was awesome that fighting games came back, less awesome that these shitty business practices came back too.

Let this once again be a message to Capcom that their aged marketing techniques from the print era are completely out of touch and ineffective now.  Again and again they soldier on with the idea that they can control exactly when and how their information gets out.  Again and Again accurate leaks happen almost immediately after they initially announce the game.   There are other ways to market a game than sporadic character reveals once or twice a month.  Really and for true, Capcom.  
 
There are also better ways to expand upon existing games without jumping right to another retail disc and making your fans feel as though your fingers are perpetually clawing at their pockets.  
 
And the character selection!  My god.  Really?  Really???  *single tear trickles down cheek*  :(

@emdimian: i'm pretty sure Capcom doesn't decide who gets in from the Marvel side. Seeing as how they have said that in like every interview. Also Frank West was in Tatsunoko Vs Capcom so he will probably fight the same way as he did in that.

I'd gladly buy it if this was released after next year's E3. But I gotta draw the line somewhere and a sequel or enhanced version (that can't be upgraded via DLC) less than a year later? I'm buying it used so I won't finance this kind of moves.

Stop putting blame on one side, both sides are equally responsible for this sub par roster.

Don't put the blame of Marvel characters on Capcom's shoulders. I believe it was on the Capcom Unity podcast where Christian Svennson (sp) and Seth Killian talked about the process of getting approval from Marvel for characters, where it was a negotiation/give and take situation. Where Marvel has a list of characters they want in to promote upcoming movies and comic series (this week Marvel announced a title with Iron Fist and Dr.Strange as featured characters, there was also rumors of TV shows/shorts being developed for those characters, so for better or worse that could be the big reason they'll both be in UMvC3), and Capcom has a list of characters they want in the game. Specifically in the podcast they mentioned Venom, and seemed to indirectly indicate Marvel did not want him in there, despite Venom being such a huge community favourite.

Looking at the Marvel roster with that lens, there are definitely choices and omissions which make "sense" from that perspective. But you can blame Capcom for Shuma Gorath, they really need to just buy the IP rights for Shuma from Marvel already and make him a Capcom character already.

No capcom, not doing it.  This buy a disc shit every 6 months for a new character...I just can't fap to that anymore.

Didn't buy the first one because I expected them to make a remake of it. I'll end up buying this one, though. Phoenix Wright demands it!

@PhilESkyline: why would they add Ken they already have Akuma and Ryu. That would just be even more of a waste.

I'm so fucking stoked for Phoenix Wright.

Wasn't stoked with the initial reveal of 4 characters (Ghost Rider and Hawkeye look pointless to me, though... if they made Hawkeye into like a Captain Commando, where he can summon other Avengers, along with a super that culminates in a beat down from a lot of Avengers, I would be down), but the rest of the additions look like they have potential. Even Nemesis, a character I could do without, looks like he can be fun.  
 
Though no females is kind of weird (Ms. Marvel, Emma Frost, Psylocke etc.). And no Megaman, which rather than getting outraged, I think I'm more curious as to why he was omitted. Does Nitsuma think that there really isn't any potential in a Megaman character (he said Zero is basically a better Megaman (they also gave Zero, Megaman's colors in his alternate), or is there a deeper issue going on within Capcom, with the projects of Megaman Universe and Megaman Legends getting canned? Strange indeed...

I think the main difference though is that those people that bought the game early, they can choose to buy what DLC or whatever they want along the way and it just enhances the game they already bought. Something like this, however, (at least with SSF4, and so far, we have no reason to believe that UMvC3 won't work the same way), it completely obsoletes the original title while forcing those that bought the original title to give up their old title to pick up the new one. It would be more like if Borderlands released two DLC additions, and then released a Game of the Year edition that included two more DLC, plus the old DLC, and only worked completely independently of the original title, and the two extra DLC additions couldn't be downloaded for the original game.

Yeah that makes sense. Forgot that's what they did with SSF4 (that's when I bought in). Arcade edition is a DLC upgrade though, right? So maybe there's hope.

I must say aside from Rocket Raccoon and Firebrand replacing gambit and Megaman I am very highly satisfied.
