Killzone 3 Gold, Multiplayer Preorder Bonuses Detailed

Who's in for double experience?

Guerrilla Games managed to jam all that “extra” into Killzone 3 in time for its expected release date. The promising sci-fi shooter sequel has reached gold status according to a recent PS blog post and will indeed launch on Feb. 22, 2011 with full 3D support, online and local co-op components, in-game jet packs, and optional PS Move functionality.

But which version of the game should you get? If you like fake helmets, the Helghast Edition might be up your alley, as it boasts a cat-sized Helghast helmet replica in addition to a game soundtrack, a “Retro Map” pack downloadable voucher, and several pre-order unlocks. If you happen to like simple $60 games, then, well, the normal version of the game should do you just fine.

== TEASER ==I feel like I need to note that the aforementioned Retro Map pack voucher is also a pre-order bonus at every possible participating retailer, including the big three: GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon. So, if you don’t want to be cut out of part of the day-one multiplayer experience, you should probably consider visiting a store to reserve a copy (as much as that sucks to do).

Here's the full list of pre-order stuff via the posting:

GameStop – Guerrilla Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive a GameStop Exclusive PSN code unlocking all multiplayer weapons and abilities for the first 24 hours of multiplayer gameplay. Also includes the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2.

Best Buy – Fast Starter Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive a BestBuy Exclusive PSN code allowing you to rank up faster, as you earn experience points at double the normal rate for the first 24 hours of multiplayer gameplay. Also includes the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2.

Amazon.com – Unlock and Load Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive an Amazon.com Exclusive PSN code and get instant access to 3 Unlock Points to use on the weapon or ability of your choice and get the early edge in Killzone 3 Multiplayer. Also includes the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2.

All other participating retailers – Retro Pack
Pre-order Killzone 3 and receive an exclusive PSN code giving you the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, featuring two of the most popular maps from Killzone 2. Also receive an exclusive PlayStation 3 Dynamic Theme.

Killzone 3. Kind of a big deal, I heard. Are you going to be playing on release day?

Yup. Basically, they went with a lesser evil. Still kinda bites, but hey. Looks like Gamestop's bonus kinda sucks. Yeah you'll be better than everyone else for those 24 hours, but everyone else will be ahead of you as soon as that time is up. Plus it ALWAYS sucks to see all the cool stuff, experience it, and then have it suddenly taken away.

I am extremely excited for this game.  Though the only reason I have it preordered is because of left over money form a game trade in deal from a while back.  I hate preorders and don't like to encourage them.  These are mass produced disks, there is no reason that preorders should be needed.  If Gamestop decides to choke stock to artificially create a need for preorders then I go to a big store that gets plenty of stock.

Not only am I getting serious Halo Reach deja vu with the jetpacks and assassination stuff, but they're adding in a cat sized Helghast helmet?

Man am I gonna skip this one like I should have skipped Killzone 2, fool me once, shame on you fool me twice with your generic game shame on me.

Then you add in this gross pre-order bullshit on top of it...

Chances are the "preorder bonus" is just shady wording as it will be new in every boxed copy, as most of the "preorder bonuses" have been lately.

Pretty gross. Amazon looks the best unless you're clearing out your schedule to play Killzone day one.

Glad those retailer exclusives are mediocre, I almost had to get upset they would pull that shit.

I think I'll wait to pick this up at a lower price next summer. I kind of want to try out Bulletstorm more(since it seems more creatively wacky like older FPS games were) and I NEED Deadspace 2 so I probably won't have the money for Killzone 3.

I rarely buy games day one, not having to deal with assholes who have a 24 hour advantage over everyone else is a good reason. :P

Those are probably the worst pre-order bonuses I've ever seen. "Want a huge advantage over everyone else online? Come to GameStop!"

I'll wait for a $40 Amazon sale a month or so after release. Killzone has been fun but it always feels "meh" to me.

I'm pumped for this game. If I had to choose I'd probably get the 3 unlock points, since that's persistent. But Europe gets the collector's edition (in a steelbook) which comes with a code that unlocks all of those bonuses I think. So if it's not very expensive I'll get that, otherwise regular ass edition with no bonuses. Although those retro maps are tempting.

God damn retailer specific preorder bonuses. Amazon seems like the best anyway, so at least that worked out.

I think I'm going to rent this. KZ 2 multiplayer never held my interest for that long.
