Killzone 3 Lands February 2011, Features Move Support

The Helghast are jetting to your console and stealing your ice cream cone.

The Sony Press Conference at E3 today opened with what every good press conferences should open: cold, hard, deliberately worded release dates. Guerrilla Games revealed today that the sterioscopic 3D enabled Killzone 3 will be arriving on the PlayStation 3 in February 2011. In addition to the release month, Guerrilla Games unveiled an additional feature during their conference segment: Killzone 3 will feature support for Sony's Move Controller. No details about this functionality were provided during the conference, but Sony announced that more information about the functionality will be revealed later in the year.

Are you folks ready to jump back into Killzone literally two years after the release of Killzone 2 game?

Looks like it's gonna be awesome but I'll use my DS3 thanks.

24 months will be the turnaround from Killzone 2 launch to Killzone 3 launch.

The controls didn't appear as floaty when they demoed.  That's a plus.  The jetpack platforming looks like fun and not something boring they tacked on to diversify gameplay...another plus.  Still looks gorgeous.  I'll buy it.

i'm def looking forward to this

2 years is pretty normal for a project turnaround when you already have a lot of the expensive tech developed. That was pretty much the timeline for Uncharted 2

This game needs more jetpants.

Sixaxis wasn't bad enough,  now we're cramming Move into places it doesn't belong!  Also, you can now watch as we make a horrifying mess of this in 3d!  Pray we don't find some way to cram Home into it =D

@Teirdome: It just says it has support. So I'm guessing if you don't want to use move you don't have to.

While I enjoyed Killzone 2 and will definitely play KZ3, this is just a series that does not excite.  To me it is just another shooter.  It is a good looking shooter, but it is just a shooter.

True, can't say it's rushed.

How will turning the camera 180 degrees work using the Move? Surely you won't have to face away from the screen.

SOCOM 4 works because the crosshair is detached from the camera and works more like a mouse cursor, moving the camera when placed near the edge. But I also HATE the concept of moving the camera that way.

This is why I curse Sony for removing the right thumbstick from the Move. I'm cool with aiming with my wrist, but I still want to adjust the camera with my thumb. -- They should have at least made the "move button"  between the face buttons a touchpad that you could slide your thumb on. Without the thumbstick on the main controller it's impossible to go akimbo and move at the same time unless both guns are glued to the same crosshair.

It's also fucking weird using the words "move" and "kinect" as nouns.

Posted by StaticFalconar

does this mean I have to get two sets of moves if I want to go akimo?

Posted by Vorbis

If Move can be used to aim then I may just pick it up, but if it's silly stuff like WAGGLE or just throwing grenades, i'll pass.

Getting KZ3 for sure, even with Rico and no Visari.

Probably won't buy this, or Halo: Reach. They're both in the same boat in my book and I'm getting tired of shooters that just add a few things and then say that they've had an overhaul. There's only so much they can do with FPS.

sounds like a pretty jaded way of thinking.  You can't enjoy a game just for what it is?

They should not be showing this game yet.  The graphics look almost last gen!

Lots of hate? PS3 exclusive? Ah-ha.

@handlas: agreed thats a sad way of thinking

Well at least there not shoving the motion controller down your throat with this game.

but it has MOVE controls!! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!

Building support for the Move into this is ridiculous.  Motion controls, while gimmicky, work for certain things.  FPS's, no thanks.

@CouncilSpectre: riiight.

@Crono: Same here. I never really saw KZ2 as anything that special.

Obviously that entire trailer was CGI. C'MON PEOPLE!

Posted by LordCrom

Hmm....maybe it 's the video quality of the upload but this trailer doesn't appear to be as graphically powerful as Killzone 2 was?
Posted by Mourne

I was expecting something with a little more substance. Just looked like the same old FPS formula without the finesse of some of the other marque titles (Killzone 2 suffered from an issue much the same). The game doesn't seem to promote any sort of strategy whatsoever and appears to be pure run-and-gun on top of jetpack-and-gun. Seeing someone demoing the game and yet getting shot so often while just strafing left and right with nondescript and unremarkable weaponry--I dunno, it just didn't appeal to me.

I understand PS3 owners are looking for a defining shooter on the console and are willing to accept subpar experiences like that offered by Killzone 2, but there must be better shooters coming to the system. It's capable of more, and I would suggest keeping your standards high if you want to see something greater that isn't 3rd party.

I really hope they fix the controls in the game. I was not a fan of them in Killzone 2. Plus if Rico could explode in a jet pack induced fireball in the first fifteen minutes that would be great.

Posted by _Phara0h_

I actually never finished KZ2 I hope they improved the AI and balance in the game...

Posted by bobthecannibal

I liked Killzone 2, this just looks like a Sony tech demo for new PS3 features so i'm not holding much hope.

Edited by myghart

Awesome DnB/Jungle beats. Almost as surprising and awesome as they were in the Killzone 2 credits. I'm gonna watch this trailer a few times more.

Killzone 3 is definitely a GOTY contender and I am predicting that it could win. The dev's have been stressing that every level is different and offers something new in terms of gameplay and they have gone out of their way to say that they've taken a lot of consideration when it comes to story and dialogue because they were thoroughly impressed by Uncharted 2. From the looks of this demo alone, WE ARE IN FOR A REAL TREAT.
They haven't even show off the multiplayer yet, which we all know, Killzone 2 had an incredibly well-designed MP that really was a step up and hasn't been matched yet.

Kinda makes me want a PS3
