Lara Croft And The Guardian Of Light PC/PSN To Launch Without Online Co-Op

Crystal Dynamics says a patch for these versions will hit at a "later date."

You'll need to reschedule your online date with Lara Croft or her immortal Aztec tribesman pal Totec. The PC and PSN versions of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light will not launch with online co-op as was assumed. It will instead be added to the games "at a later date" beyond their respective September 28 releases across the aforementioned platforms.

Online co-op was an expected part of these two versions of the game, perhaps as a result of the their proximity to the planned release date of a patch that will add online co-op to the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game (which itself bafflingly launched in August without the support). Local co-op, though, is still go for the PC and PSN versions, and for what its worth, the functionality works well. But, yeah, the whole having-to-sit-with-a-person-in-the-same-room thing is a drag--especially, when you want to be Totec.

But in other news, there also appears to be a bit of wavering on the arrival date of the XBLA version's co-op patch. A Crystal Dynamics representative has told Joystiq that the support update will be coming "in the very near future," instead of pegging its previously announced release date. Odd.

The failed full launch of the XBLA version of the game is presumably the core reason why Crystal Dynamics will be offering the game's first bit of DLC for free for the first 30 days of its existence on Xbox Live. This news makes us wonder if that offer won't be extended to the PS3 and PC, as well.

I don't think this will win them any points with the fans and players. But the game's still fun at its core, that's what counts right?

I've been planning to get this for the PC, but I think I will wait till co-op is released.

What a joke. I saw this advertised on Steam and thought about picking it up but it seems like they're determined to make sure people don't buy their game.

Dude, what? Why is the co-op such a big stumbling block for this game?

Screw the co-op, even if you bought it for yourself, the game is still plenty awesome.

I saw an add for The Guardian of Light on PSN today. It said "Playstation Plus Exclusive" (or something like that) on it... I wonder if PSN Plus subscribers will get online co-op from the get go?

What a complete mess. I'll hold off picking it up for PSN until they get it together.
Why won't people release games when they're finished?

on the bright side, if you pre-order it on Steam, you get Tomb Raider Legend (which is pretty good) for free

This patch will hit at a later date. At a date when no one cares about this game anymore. Sad.

One has to wonder why a company would develop a co-op game without the ability to actually build the spotlight mode. Sure, there's local co-op, but in an age where Turtles In Time can come out as absolute crap but still have working online co-op, a game built from the ground up with co-op in mind should have had that as top priority.

This is highly disappointing, and I wish I had just saved my $15 instead of buying this (for the $15 refund, having bought the rest of SoA.) I hope the sales for the PS3 and PC version positively tank and these developers learn the lesson to not promise what you're unable to serve (I'm looking at you, Molyneux.)

Stop this bullshit, Dont expect me to pay full price for something that will come out at a later date. Developers are abusing the patch system. do you think this shit could fly before DLC became so big.

Wait, playing with someone else sitting next to you is a drag?  Tell that to my workplace, where we FOCUS on that type of gameplay style!  People LOVE that.  It's one of the reasons so many games have a split-screen option!!!

Nonetheless, it sucks to here the co-op is going to take a little longer.  However, they ARE giving away at least their first DLC for FREE for a limited time (first 30 days, I believe).  Therefore, can't complain too much, especially when that was (IMO) one of the best games of the year.

Maybe by the time co-op comes out and I finally buy it'll have dropped in price. At some point it's so far beyond release and they already have everyone's money, maybe it never comes out?
