Will we even be able to afford to pay rent in Q1 2011?
Media Molecule has confirmed a recent rash of Internet rumblings indicating that its ambitious platformer/build-a-game title, LittleBigPlanet 2, has been smacked with a delay. The PS3-exclusive, which at one point was due for release this November, will now see a release in January 2011, according to a recent post on the game's website.
"We’ve all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we’re almost there, but because we love what we’ve made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn’t let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable," the blog post reads. "Which is why we’ve taken the hard decision to delay the worldwide release of LBP2, originally slated for later this year to January 2011."
It's obvious from the tone of the post that Media Molecule is bummed about the decision to push back the title. However, the studio also appears confident that it was the right thing to do.
This decision may sting you a bit, especially if you've pre-ordered one of those grande box sets with a side of Sackboy plushie, but one of the last parting notes in the post may help ease the pain. There's a hint that the LBP2 beta, or maybe even a demo, will give us more LBP2 than what was slated. "On the upside, we are going to find a way to give more of you a taste of LBP2 prior to launch, so stay tuned," the post reads.
Speaking of beta, Media Molecule didn't say if our version of the game's beta would be delayed alongside the main game. According to a PS blog post around the middle of September, invites to a global beta (which includes the US) would be thrown out "in a few weeks."

I can respect that they delayed it to work on the game more. Compared to other people delaying their games because of Call of Duty or Halo. Which the people delaying aren't even making a FPS.

....you might not care but the majority of people who own PS3s do care. This is hands down the biggest game Sony has ever made and the most important game for the PS3 since it's launch.
I'm honestly kind of relieved to hear this. I was already debating skipping LBP2 because I knew that Gran Turismo 5 will be taking up most of my PS3 time in November and December. Come January, I'll be a lot more apt to pick it up.
...I don't get why people are upset. GT5 is out the week beforehand and will do much more for Sony than even the best LBP2 game. It's strictly business and LBP2 has no chance to survive with GT5 and whatever else tries to take on GT5 during the holidays.
Its a good choice, LBP launch with tons of network problems that werent solved for a few months anyways, better to release a complete game then a bugged one.
@KaosAngel: Kaos you seem to like to assure people that GT5 is the way to go. Some people just don't like racers, lol. I will be getting it though it looks freakin awesome!!!!!! I was also thinking about getting Forza 3 but GT5 has so much stuff in it I might just skip it.
Anyway on LBP, I really hope they polish this game more than the first and make it way less glitchy. I might get this but if it disappoints me I'm done with the franchise forever. You have no idea how much I couldn't stand the first game.
Since I won this game in a contest and it was already supposed to get to me three weeks before launch date, I wonder if I can, just, like, exchange the prize for a different game or something. Always sucks when shit gets delayed.
It is a shame but I was intending to buy day one GT5 and buy LBP2 only at some point. So no big deal for me. Seems a shame I would of thought a LBP2 PS3 bundle for the kids and a GT5 PS3 bundle for the teenager would of been a good idea for Sony to push this Christmas.
Saddened by this, BUT the best game of the year (Mass Effect 2) came out in January this year. Maybe the best 2011 games is coming out in January next year in the form of LBP2 (though c'mon, prob not. it'll be awesome though).
This is bad, but good at the same time. There are too many games I want at the end of the year, but then Dead Space 2 is coming out on the 25th of January also.
