Mortal Kombat Patch Incoming to Address Multiplayer Issues

King of the Hill and ranked 1v1 matches to get some fixin'.

As much as folks have blamed consoles for errording the influence of PC games (which, nipping your comments in the bud, clearly isn't true), console players have become accustomed to regular patches.

Mortal Kombat will be on the receiving end of a patch soon, according to a statement released to the official Mortal Kombat boards. News of a patch isn't surprising, considering the patch is meant to address some serious issues players have had with King of the Hill and 1v1 ranked matches.

"Thank you for supporting Mortal Kombat! Due to the overwhelmingly positive reception to the game, Mortal Kombat has millions of online matches being initiated worldwide every day, and we have run into some unanticipated technical issues. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios are aware of the issues with the online gameplay – specifically with 'King of the Hill' and Ranked 1 v. 1 matches - and we want to assure our fans that we are focused on resolving online issues ASAP. We have added a 'Technical Issues' section to our forum so please be sure to let us know what issues you are having so we can address those as soon as possible. Users will begin seeing improvements in online play over the course of the next two weeks. In the meantime please note that none of this will impact the single-player or offline multiplayer experience, and we greatly appreciate your patience!"

I haven't been able to get online due to PSN being down.

Want to fix that too Netherrealms? Pretty please?

Awesome! Let me turn on my PS3 en get some multiplayer actio... ohhhh... right.

Posted by AOR

Awesome. I wish they'd add some sort of punishment for rage quitters on 1 vs 1 matches, though. People get all angry and quit once the Noob Saibot train starts coming through.

thank god!!! it takes forever to get into a KOTH match

I have the PS3 version, so that last line, plus that picture of Raiden...
Bravo Klepek, bravo.

Awful lag. Nobody had 4 dots. My PS3 is connected through a DMZ. Time to get patching. ...Whenever PSN decides to come back.

I just don't get how they messed up the netcode when BB, SF4, SSF4, and MvC3 have all come out within a year or two of each other.

At the very least, I would think the netcode would be worked on better than other fighting games.  Then again, Capcom fucked up MvC3's netcode after making SSF4 so anything can happen.

Nice, hopefully this will mean some better connectivity in Ranked and King of the Hill matches.

As someone who has a relatively weak connection to begin with, this could be much appreciated. So glad that just doing Player Matches and the offline components are so much fun to keep everyone busy enough.

If only Capcom would follow suit.

King of the Hill has been pretty close to unplayable once you get more then 3 people in a session but otherwise it's been great.

Exclusively on 360!

I'd like a patch that prevents this from happening.

Stop wondering and let me tell you...It feels even BETTER than you might imagine.

Does this fix PSN!

I kid of course, though it would be pretty awesome if they released a patch to route around PSN since PSN is just playing the middle man between you and WB's servers.

@Coldbrand: My exact thoughts of course it works fine over in Japan so why bother fixing just for some Euros and americans?

"Fixed bug that affected 95% of online players, now you will finally be able to play something besides Scorpion"
"Due to an error, teleport-punch was the only move activated on Smoke. This has been remedied"

@FLStyle: Oh yeah I saw that on iplaywinner. Though to be fair, I wouldn't mind using that glitch to farm a few of the trophies for the single player mode of the game. Other than that, I think that it would be a really dumb thing to see online.

The glitch is even worse with Johnny Cage. It takes advantage of countering and if you use this glitch with his X-ray attack...well you get infinite X-rays. Yeah....crazy glitch with the counters.

@Burn1n9m4n: Yep yep yep, bad stuff.

My 1v1 ranked takes like 5 minutes to find another match and then it's far from smooth during the fighting. Not that impressed. Meanwhile i jump on PC and play TF2 to Seattle and i have sub 20 ping.

I've been enjoying the story, ladder and challenge tower modes so much I've barely touched multiplayer. When I did though I didn't encounter any serious problems.  The online matches seemed to be a tad slower then the single player modes, but no big whoop.

Awesome game, congrats NetherRealms  : )

Posted by csl316

I haven't had any issues, aside from occasional lag.  And when I do player matches against my buddies it's been super smooth.

There's been a ton of douchebags playing, though.  But what can you do.

Posted by Shakezula84

None. I got it for PS3 :(

Posted by craigbo180

Hopefully they do a good job because there is no point in playing online right now.

Posted by FuzzYLemoN

I wonder if by "multiplayer issues" they mean "THE ABILITY TO PLAY ONLINE AT ALL".

Posted by REDRUN

awesome, they have a ton of work ahead of them to fix.

Differently development teams, different designers and coders.

I still wonder what multiplayer is even like... damn PSN.

Lol at all the PSN comments. I assume you did this on purpose Klepek.

Well if it makes it easier for Gootecks and Mike Ross to do some more tag team vids, I'm all for the patch!
Posted by Sayishere

What problems? I HAVE NOT EVEN PLAYED THIS GAME ONLINE YET /cry

Thank you Sony, i love you

@FLStyle: I was trying that glitch earlier today. Worked really well against the AI training dummy.
Edited by Slaker117

Ive been loving the game, but the online is jacked. Nearly impossible to find a game using player matching, half the time when challenging or joining people in lobbies the session is "unavailable", and even when a game does gets going it almost always has significant latency issues and drops more often then it should.

Posted by olrak

My online experience has been horrendous - it is a good thing the single player in this game is fantastic otherwise I would have been disappointed.  Highly anticipating this patch to get back online!

Posted by BD_Mr_Bubbles

glad to hear it
Posted by Bloodgraiv3

When I was able to play it on PSN, I had no troubles and really enjoyed it. I just want to play it some more!!!

But fixing problems is good to hear!

Posted by Bestostero

Seems like they should fix the random game freeze problem too, a lot of people are seeing that happen...

Posted by DougQuaid

Any idea when this is actually coming?

Yeah bumping this question.
Posted by Mikazukinoyaiba

My online experience has been pretty good, only issues have been waiting a bit too long for people to responde to my challenge requests in rooms, it's like they are in the lobby but away from their console.

lol nice. Yes, my experience of the online can be broken down into some simple stats. 80% Scorpion, 19% Smoke, 1% Other.

But I am glad that they are going to fix these issues, of course, but I worry that since they specifically mention King of the Hill and Ranked 1v1. But I am not going to get my hopes up before they ever do anything because this is the same team that said their netcode make it so the game would be lag-free...

My experience has been pretty terrible online, anything that was timing based you could forget about because of the lag. Tried out SF4 and MvC3 just make sure it wasn't on my end.

Glad the patch will be here soon, because I intend to play the shit out of this game.

Edited by Serket

Seems like there's a spelling error - "errording the influence" should be... "eroding", I think? Also, are we supposed to report spelling errors? I know some news sites encourage that, but I don't know about the policy here - whether anyone can edit out the error if they're informed of it, etc.

Posted by Godzilla_Sushi

My experience has been very poor. That said, if it broke because of all the people playing then I'm totally for that! That means more fights! :)

....when I'm able to fight....
