MTV Multiplayer On Hiatus

MTV's gaming blog temporarily goes dark following Stephen Totilo's departure.

Totilo, undoubtedly thinking about games.
Totilo, undoubtedly thinking about games.
My apologies if this is a little too "inside baseball," but the story that's probably perked up the most game writers' ears this week was the news that Stephen Totilo, head blogger over at MTV Multiplayer for the past four years and (fun fact!) creator of the TV show Hogan Knows Best, was jumping ship for a gig with Kotaku. Today marked his last day at MTV, and apparently one of his final duties was to turn off the lights on his way out, as he announced that MTV Multiplayer would be going on hiatus. It is, however, something that he frames as being a temporary arrangement.
MTV has had a fierce commitment to video games for years. Look for it to continue. I’ve worked with the company these last two weeks to point Multiplayer toward a bright future and I’m excited about the possibilities. Give the blog a couple of weeks… and join me in anticipating its return.
Totilo mentioned the possibility of Multiplayer going dark for a short stretch following his departure in his interview with Crispy Gamer earlier this week, so the hiatus doesn't come as a complete shock. Also, considering how integral Totilo was to the voice of MTV Multiplayer, it's not entirely surprising that MTV would take some time to reconsider how it approaches covering video games. Regardless of what happens with Multiplayer, though, you can expect to see Totilo back in the game-writin' saddle in his new position as deputy managing editor at Kotaku come May 4th. We here at Giant Bomb wish the best of luck to all involved!
