NBA Jam 360 And PS3 Will Be A Disc-Based Release

Just in case you were wondering.

NBA Jam for the Xbox 360 and PS3 will indeed be a disc-based release when it hits later this holiday.

Right. You're not surprised and neither are we. Earlier in October, NBA Jam creative director Trey Smith said that the team, after hearing about NBA Elite 11's surprise postponement, was going to do "everything in [their] power to get as much in there as possible." This included dropping in the Remix Tour and building up the title's online component into something worth talking about, two additions that indicated a disc-based release was coming. It was confirmed to be at least a standalone release prior to Smith's comments.

No Caption Provided

== TEASER ==Previously, NBA Jam HD was slated to be a digital download exclusive to owners of NBA Elite 11. EA's original plan was to ship this version of the title with just three modes: Play Now, the classic campaign, and a barebones online mode. The standalone Wii version--which has been released since all this hullaballoo started--was supposed to be the only one featuring Remix Tour, the game's full-featured campaign component that pits you against NBA Legends and other teams. But even that has been brought into question. Dudes who somehow got their hands on the digital version of NBA Jam were reporting seeing Remix Mode as a potential additional download.

A recent GameFly listing indicated we'd see a disc-based release, and after speculation swirled, a statement given to Kotaku confirmed it. "The fact that retailers are showing the box is because we are shipping Jam in a box on [Xbox 360 and PS3]," EA Sports Vancouver PR director Jen Riley said. "We just haven't announced a firm date." Or price. But it seems inevitable that we'll see a $50 or $60 release now. Oh, and the date? GameFly indicates that we'll see NBA Jam as early as this November, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Man, I've never played it, but it doesn't look like a game I'll be paying full prices for, when it's way cheap, I'll probably try it out.

People this is coming as a separate mode in NBA 2011. you're getting a full game added into another for the price of one.

What school of logic did everyone go to to think this is somehow a BAD thing?

I don't know if a $50 - $60 game (that was originally planned for digital distribution at a likely $20 - $25 price point) is going to be flying off the shelves this holiday season.

Still excited --- just more cautiously excited than before.

I want it, but I don't see myself paying more than $15-20 max for it.  It's a novelty arcade game.

40.00 seems like a decent price for it. If it comes out at 60 it wont be long before it is deeply discounted. Hopefully they don't rush all the extra stuff that they are adding and make a crappy game that will take a while to fix after it is released.

Not even that.  The game was originally a free download to anyone that bought NBA Elite.  Going from free to $50-$60 is a big jump (though honestly some people were only planning to by Elite for NBA Jam, so maybe there's no difference).

There is no way that this game will cost less than $50, given that's what the Wii version costs.  EA might even bump the price up to $60.

Uh, maybe I'm not following your logic, but this game is completely independent from NBA Elite 2011. You'll be paying full price (or something close to it) for NBA Jam, even if you have Elite.

Well considering the Wii version is 50 dollars, I would imagine an HD version would still ring up with the usual 60 dollar price tag.

Either way it's good to see this making it's way to the other consoles. I played the Wii version and had an absolute blast, but lack of a Wii makes playing it at home rather difficult. This solves all my problems!

What the pack in product was to what it is post separation are still different beasts. People seem to like to selectively read their news posts for some reason.

@darkknightbob: People were hoping that NBA Jam being a standalone downloadable release on XBL/PSN meant it would be $20 at most.

But those people have unrealistic expectations.

Would I be out of my mind to think that they could maybe integrate Move support? Or a patch for it down the line?

Gotta be fucking kidding me, that's stupid, how did they end up screwing up this entire process so much.
I was thinking i'd play nba jam in between other games, you know, quick sessions with my friends, but no, now i gota change discs every fucking time.

Sounds like a small thing, but this pretty much ruins it for me.

No, its not. NBA Jam and NBA 2011 are two different, full priced games. Jam was supposed to come packed in with 2011, but once that got pushed back, they decided to release Jam separately. So if you want both Jam and 2011 when they're released, you'll be paying at least $110, probably $120.

Watched the game in action and it really does feel like the old arcade game.  Thats a relieve and a disappointment at the same time.  What I saw did not look like it would be worth $50 - $60.  I think if they priced it at $10 - $15 on XBLA it would have sold like hot cakes.  I think at this moment there just packing in to much game for XBLA and not enough game for that high sticker price.  This could have been a simple online XBLA game that would have sold huge, now its just a over priced inflated game.

Whats so unrealistic?  The fact is EA just over inflated it. Do you actually care about a stand alone vs CPU story mode?  I don't know to me if they went more simple with the modes and just gave it a simple exhibition mode and online mode $15 wouldn't have been that hard to do.  Have fun paying $60 for this and finding a small online fan base to play with.  EA screwed this one up big, I predict failing sales.
