Nintendo Confirms 3DS Launch Game Line-Up

Fear not, Pilotwings Resort will joint Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D on day one.

At its New York event in January, Nintendo wasn’t as clear as we hoped it would be about the 3DS’ game launch line-up. Instead, it opted to throw around the loose term “launch window” when talking about upcoming titles set to grace the portable in its first few months of release. Now, though, we have a clearer picture: Nintendo has announced a total of 16 games that will be available on March 27--the day the 3DS hits. The list is as follows:

Here's a look at some of those titles in action.

Take note of the missing titles here. As we were correctly led to believe, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 64 3D, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Mario Kart won’t hit on day one. But according to today’s press release, they’re all still slated for 2011. As for the first-party titles we’ll actually see on launch, those are the aforementioned Pilotwings Resort, Nintendogs Plus Cats, and Steel Diver.

Not the strongest stable of titles out of the gate, right? But are you still interested in grabbing 3DS and some games on launch day?

What about Day 1 download titles?

Posted by Little_Socrates
@endaround: There won't be any, eshop won't launch until May.

Not picking this up any time soon.
Posted by Cincaid

Won't buy a 3DS anyway, but that list seems kind of lame.
Posted by JJOR64

About fucking time Nintendo.  This launch line up is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better then the original DS lineup.

Going to get Pilotwings, Super Monkey Ball, and Ridge Racer.  Excuse me  I mean RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAACER!

It's bummer that DOA is making the day one launch, but that's OK.

Posted by Kjellm87

I'll check out Street Fighter,
what I'm looking most forward to is the new Mario Kart.

Posted by AjayRaz

DOA games out three days after, i think so SSFIV can hold me until then.

Terrible launch line-up (even by launch standards).
No "e-shop" until May.
Camera's resolution is only .3 megapixels 640x480 vga.
3D is the main draw, but many have complained about trouble keeping focus when playing in 3D.
Top screen is only 3.5" - the same size as an iPod Touch/iPhone  ...seems a bit small to make the 3D really matter.

I'm definitely waiting.

Posted by Loopah

Cant wait for this.  Wished for a better launch line-up, but I'll take it.

Posted by Prims777

I'm gonna hold out till a) I can get some cash and b) they release the 3DS lite.

Posted by Pabba

Probably just gonna buy the hardware. First I've heard there's a new Animal Crossing in the works!
Posted by hagridore

Nintendogs, Pilotwings, Steel Diver are what Nintendo brings to the table? 3DS un-pre-ordered.

Is Rayman 3D a new game?

Posted by Kyle

The only games there that I'm even remotely interested in are Street Fighter, which I already own, and Monkey Ball which hasn't been good in years. Also, Pilot Wings MIGHT be cool. I'd have to see a little more of it.

That's really not saying much... at all.
Posted by wrathofconn

I'm guessing that when I get one of these, Monkey Ball is going to be the only actual 3DS game I'll want to buy. Maybe even until the new Animal Crossing comes out. Good thing there are some regular DS games I'd like to play as well.

I'll be waiting for either a game I can't wait to play, a price drop, or a hardware redesign. There is nothing on this list that I want. Actually, there isn't anything announced that I want. The 3D versions of N64 and Gamecube games sound neat, but I already own them and don't need the 3D or awkward controls (if Mario 64 DS is any indication).

So a bunch of ASS games and Street Fighter?

Posted by masterherocard

I'm excited for Pilotwings and Street Fighter, and am thinking of a few other things.

Posted by Video_Game_King

Shit. There's no way I'm buying a 3DS on the first day. At least the original DS had a remake of an N64 game; how do you even launch a console/portable without one?

Posted by septim

Not really even a single game I would want to play, much less one that would propel me to buy a console.

Posted by CrimsonClown

Awful launch looking lineup, seriously lacking in exciting first party titles.

Posted by haruspex

Really looking forward to playing Ocarina of Time again... on a tiny, but 3D screen ^_^

Edited by SkinnyBlue

Samurai Warriors: Chronicles, hmm? So, I get to kill countless hordes of mindless enemies...IN 3D? Tempting...

Posted by TheRoadHead

I'm getting one, not sure why though. I mean the 3D is awesome but the launch line up is a little weak in my opinion. I wasn't gaming much around the time of the DS's launch so I can't really compare them. While i barely  play my Wii and DS I'm still holding on to my fanboyism for nintendo that I've had for the last +20 years. So yea I feel urged to pick it up and beside at least it's a "okay" launch line up and we will be getting good titles through the end of the year. Nothing is worst than having a good launch line up and no games for 6-9 months. I think I'm going to get Pilot Wings Resort because it loved the first two games and it's been nearly 15 years since the last game.

Besides Amazon has let me pre-order 2 units (a black one and a blue one) so my hope is the idiots on ebay that pay way over price when their are no units available after launch will be crazy like during the PS/Wii launches and be paying near or at least double the MSRP so it will pay for the unit I plan to keep. Although seeing it not November when the last consoles launch the ebay prices might be lower.  Hey and if get more than i expect I'll get another game, although the 40 dollars a game isn't something I'm loving.

Nothing I want right now.

Posted by AmplifiedMuffin

Damn. Not interested in any of those. :(

Posted by Sayishere

the only reason keeping me interested in this handheld is the ocarina remake

any reason for me to replay that masterpiece of a game, is something i WANT

Posted by Brenderous

So no Ocarina or Star Fox.

No real reason to buy it day 1 anymore.

Posted by ThaMilkMan

you guys are forgetting one very important piece to the puzzle....Eshop! ...sadly that won't be out at launch either...or something...dang...yep waiting on paper mario.

Edited by Bollard

And... Why is Paper Mario in that video but not mentioned in the launch day list or omitted games list? ...

Also I still can't believe people are saying this is a weak launch list... Rayman, Ridge Racer, The Sims, Ghost Recon, Street Fighter, Lego Star Wars - those are some big names!! Plus Super Monkey Ball is the only game you need anyway... So...

Yikes.

Posted by enemymouse

I was interested in a launch day purchase until I read that list.

Posted by Jolt92

Will probably pick up a 3DS and play some Picross 3D, Ghost Trick, and Inazuma Eleven  until the real games come out! I want that Layton.

Posted by Sparky_Buzzsaw

This has pretty much made up my mind that I won't be getting one on the launch day, but I'm most definitely going to look at picking one up around the holidays.  Amazon Black Friday deals, I'm already getting my hopes up and looking at you.

part of me actually wants an iPad over this...

Posted by OriginalGman

Still picking up my pre-order just to have a 3DS when the games I want hit. Maybe I'll pick up Pilotwings if it feels more like the 64 game than Wii Sports Resort.

Posted by RiotBananas

Thanks, but no thanks.

Posted by BrittneyIRiotI

So waiting til The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D to come out not work spending the money for right now.

Posted by RagOnAStick

This line up sucks super monkey balls 3D!

Posted by bartok

I can't wait to play Steel Diver but I can't decide on whether to get the Dio or Kill Switch Engaged version.

Posted by MrKlorox

Damn... that's pretty disappointing. Sadly the only game that looks really interesting is the Tom Clancy game, and not in a cool way to demo the 3D... way.  Pilotwings would be a no brainer if it wasn't set on the damn Wii Sports Resort island that I've already experienced. The best part about those games is having a relaxing flight and enjoying the scenery.

I still have time to cancel my pre-order and get a video card. I just wish I knew the 3DS would be in stock later in the year if I don't buy at launch. AHH TECHNOLOGICAL INVESTMENTS!! :(

Posted by Daveyo520

I will get one when I can afford it, so years after it is released.

Posted by JoeRosa

No titles that would really move the system. This seems to aim more casual audience first then the hardcore/fans towards the end of June. Each game is either better on a console or there is a way better game to invest in.  Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition seems okay there is SSF4 and MVC3 with Mortal Kombat coming out aims more towards a pass. It seems better to wait till summer to buy a 3ds. Looking forward to Zelda, any Mario adventure game and Rpg games.
