Keith Stuart's been running pieces of a fascinating Peter Moore interview that he originally conducted for Esquire's October issue in the gaming blog over at guardian.co.uk. Moore is, of course, the President of EA Sports who previously served very public tours of duty at Microsoft and Sega.
The interview's being strung out over five days, so I'm waiting for it to come to some gigantic, revelatory conclusion on Friday. But that doesn't mean that the parts that've posted so far have been dull. Here's what's happened so far.
Part 1 - The interview kicks off with talk about Moore's transition into the video game business and covers the Dreamcast brand, including anecdotes about playing NBA 2K1 against Ice Cube over a phone line as the Dreamcast went online.
Part 2 - Moore discusses some of the challenges that come with working for a Japanese company like Sega, the transition from Dreamcast to a third-party, and how he got in at Microsoft and made an impact on the launch of the Xbox 360.
Part 3 - Things start to get a little grungy here, with Moore's comments on how Microsoft perceives the Xbox group and makes his views on Rare--at least at the time of games like Perfect Dark Zero and Viva Pinata--pretty clear with the quote "[Rare's] skillsets were from a different time and a different place and were not applicable in today's market."
Fascinating stuff so far, and there are still two days to go. But with tidbits like that strung throughout, it's going to need a pretty shocking conclusion. How about he rolls up his sleeve, revealing a tattoo that reads "Shocker! I'm secretly a woman!" or something?
