Pre-Order Dragon Age II And Receive DLC And A Soundtrack

EA announces a pre-order-only version of Dragon Age II titled "BioWare Signature Edition." It has a certain ring to it, right? No? It doesn't?

When Dragon Age: Origins hit shelves, so did free vouchers for "The Stone Prisoner," a nice piece of DLC that added a golem named Shale to the game. We can now call this move something of a tradition, as EA has announced that character-based DLC will be shipping with copies of Dragon Age II this January as well. A few catches, and a few bonuses, though, before you get too excited.

Foremost, you should be aware that this DLC won't be available to those who don't pre-order a copy of the RPG before January 11, 2011. You'll have to decide quick. Also, this pre-order copy won't be a regular version of the game. It's being called by a different name, the Dragon Age II BioWare Signature Edition, and it will come with an EA-estimated 20 dollars worth of DLC. The aforementioned "playable character and new missions" DLC is included, as well as an "exclusive in-game digital armory featuring a variety of weapons and other digital items" and the game's soundtrack.

Note that It appears as if nothing with the core disc is being fiddled with.

That's the boss from End of Days, right?
That's the boss from End of Days, right?

This isn't exactly an unusual move. As I mentioned, the previous Dragon Age title shipped with DLC and so have other EA titles like Battlefield: Bad Company 2 or even Mass Effect 2. If you want to save on DLC down the road, make sure you find a pre-order Signature Edition copy at a store or, you know, you could always pre-order it. Just do it soon.

“Over the past 15 years, we’ve been privileged to have the support of a passionate community of fans, who continue to grow in number with every game we release,” BioWare's Dr. Ray Muzyka said in a statement. “The BioWare Signature Edition of Dragon Age II is a chance for us to reward loyal fans who pre-order the game by providing them with additional high-quality content for free.”

Dragon Age II (still no subtitle, Ryan!) hits the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 8.

Okay, a soundtrack I can get behind. I ended up buying both BF: Bad Company soundtrack, as well as the one from Mirror's Edge, so a free soundtrack sounds great to me! I hope EA continues this trend in their future games...

Just preordered. It's pretty cool that we're sort of getting collector's edition level content for no additional cost.

Me too.  The last two SMT: Persona games came with soundtracks included.  I think that type of promotional product is the best motivation to pre-order and buy new.

I can't wait for this game. Nothing for the remainder of 2010 can match the anticipation I have for this game (note: Witcher 2 is close, but it's 2011).

Not a bad deal. I like that their promotion doesn't fuck with their customers and actually provides something worth while.

Ugh, ya. I wrote that badly.

Translation: I'm not looking forward to anything else for the remainder of 2010 near as much as I'm looking forward to the 2011 release of DA2. I'm also looking forward to the Witcher 2 which also comes out in 2011.

That's the gist of it.

Hmm, if I could wait until the inevitable DA2: Ultimate GOTY Edition I would.  Since I can't, this seems like a nice bonus for my impatience.  Also, I could really get behind new games coming with soundtracks and things (for the normal price), rather than outright punishing those who buy used by stripping out meaningful content.

Didn't say I wouldn't try to, but I don't like that they are cutting content from the game and locking it behind this pre-order wall and making it paid DLC down the road for those that can't get it on time like they did with the first game and the Stone Prisoner content. The only video game store in my area, EB Games, has a horrible track record of screwing us out of pre-order bonuses. The last 5 times I have pre-ordered games from there I have not gotten it. The people who work there steal the stuff and give it to there friends or each other then say "Oops sorry, looks like they didn't send us enough of them."

So unless this comes out on Steam I will get screwed out of this content that they cut from the game for this pre-order crap. So I will have to pay more money for this bit that they took out to nickle and dime us with that should have been in the game.

@InfamousBIG:  I could, but where I live I wouldn't get the game until a week or two after it comes out so I tend to avoid amazon as that wait would drive me nuts. Plus amazon.ca doesn't always have the best selection for games I find.

The one thing that was not mentioned in the article that I am wondering about is how do I get that edition of the game on Steam? I will preorder Dragon Age 2, since I loved the first, but really prefer to buy the game through Steam, so I hope soon they announce that the deal mentioned above will be available on Steam as well.

Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2 were both sold on steam.  I think it's a safe assumption that Dragon Age 2 will also be  sold on Steam.

I'm sure the deal mentioned will be given to Steam pre orders.

Does it even count as DLC if their announcing it before the game is even out? If it's available with the game, why not just call it...something else. Like an add on or a bonus edition or something.

I am going to pre-order this because really, it's a better deal and I'm going to buy the game anyway.
However, I'm going to wait until after my Fable III  game ships because I pre-ordered THAT through Amazon which is offering $20 off of the next $60 game purchase (credit applied within two days of shipping date) to see if it's applicable. I have until January, so waiting until the end of the month isn't the end of days. I don't know how/if the credit will work, but getting a $60 game for $40 plus $20 worth of DLC seems like an awesome bargain.

Be prepared for the milking shit again. So you buy the fucking game, you buy those 100 DLCs they will eventually release in the future and after you have spent 100 dollars/euros on all that fucking shit, they announce a game of the year edition with all DLCs on it for 50 or 60 dollars/euros. FUCK  YOU EA! Seriously, Im tired of this shit. Now I have to buy 2 copies of the same game? Only because the GOTY edition is cheapest then all DLCs together?

Hmmm how about no.
Considering the poor light in witch DA2 emerged, preordering the game without seeing the goods is a bit too risky this time around. While I dislike conspiracy theories this seems like they are trying to sell the game a bit too hard before people even see it in action.
