Skyrim’s Dragonborn DLC on 360 Tuesday, Elsewhere Early 2013

It appears progress is being made on Skyrim's tech issues on PS3.

No Caption Provided

The latest add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dragonborn, launches tomorrow on Xbox 360, as per Microsoft’s exclusivity agreement, and arrives on PC and PlayStation 3 (!!!) early next year.

Bethesda Game Studios made this promise to PS3 owners in a blog post today, and it suggests whatever work it has been doing in collaboration with Sony regarding Skyrim is making progress.

In the comment section, players asked about the game’s other add-ons coming to PS3, and Bestheda was non-committal, only promising updates there would be more updates in the future.

“We know you guys are hungry for more content, and we still have more in the works,” said the company. “We’ll share details with everyone as soon as we can.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bethesda is saving the add-ons to drop at once alongside Dragonborn, or at least stagger them pretty close to one another when the technical issues have been resolved. We’ll see, but let's be optimistic!

Bethesda Game Studios has struggled with Sony’s platform all generation long, and Skyrim was no exception. In many cases, it was much worse, since it was broken in fundamental ways, and PS3 owners have yet to receive downloadable content that’s readily available elsewhere for technical reasons. Players have reason to be upset.

About a year, after they release all the DLC.

Not sure what's the bitterness over delayed DLC releases. It seems crazy to get it on day 1 in the first place, when it is guarenteed to go on Steam sale in less than a year.

There was some talk (i.e. baseless rumors) that they would discount the DLC for PS3 users. I don't have much hope.

I've never bought a Bethesda game on Steam. How long does it take them to put a GOTY edition for a game like this on sale?

I'm psyched to go back to Solsthiem and will be picking this up day 1.

Just thought I'd throw out a positive comment to shake things up.

I'm with you. I never played Morrowind but I'm really excited to see their rendition in Skyrim.

Would've been perfect to play over the Christmas holidays. Wish it was hitting on PC sooner.

@SlashDance: do you know of any handy guides online for transferring a save?

Haven't had any of the bugs reported on the PS3 version except for the memory one, which was supposedly fixed.

As far as the DLC goes, if the first two aren't heavily discounted come actual PS3 release, I won't be picking them up. They sound cool, and an excuse for more time, or even a new character in that world after killing everything I had getting the platinum trophy sounds great to me, but unless they come with a pretty serious apology (read: cash money!), it just doesn't seem worth it to me to support something that's treated like a red-headed step kid.

People should fuckin' sue Bethesda over that PS3 version. The fact that they were able to get away with releasing a product that broken in 2011 and being shockingly unwilling to do major fixes to it is utterly appalling.

The game is still completely unplayable on the PS3, so who gives a fuck if the DLC is coming to PS3 or not. I really wanted to like that game, but I'm going to have a hard time supporting any more of their games when they're shitting all over a third of their potential audience.

If you're on PS3, selling the game and rebuying it for PC seems like the best solution. It's been on sale a good number of times, you can easily transfer your save, and even with a crappy PC you can get it to look better. Also, mods.

I feel worse for poor Bethesda who has to make an open world game on 135MBs of RAM. They may as well try and make an iphone version if they can pull that off.

Timed exclusives are really gross, though. Especially such a massive gap on them. I wonder how much Microsoft had to pay them to get that advantage. I certainly hope no one is picking platforms based on timed DLC windows.

Man, I'm glad nobody on these comments works in marketing or in business. This whole capitalist dream we live would crumble in an instant.

Yep. Bethesda completely squandered the addon potential of Skyrim with this garbage. Also, as a PC, PS3 and 360 owner, I'd really appreciate it if companies stopped selling exclusivity rights. It's just a giant "fuck you" to everyone. It improves no one's experience, it only worsens it for some.

I dont have a ps3 copy, but I would hope that they just throw a bone to those users and give away one of them for free. PS3 users have gotten the shaft from Bethesda for this entire generation, so it would be a nice gesture of them appreciating the user's patience

Well, I'm getting bored with the moronic platform exclusivity. I have been itching to get back into Skyrim and I probably will give it another magnificent run when all the DLC is actually out on PC. I may just wait for the whole package to receive a good discount at this point. There's so much other great stuff to play that I just can't be bothered with following all the weird release date nonsense every fucking time. Shit like this makes me really miss a good old expansion pack that ensured I'd get another significant chunk of game to dive back into a beloved universe. Skyrim, as excellent as I personally think it is, doesn't lend itself well to dispensing bite-sized quests every once in a while. When they decide to even make me wait at the very moment I'm aware of a new piece of content I'll just pass for the time being.

I bought Skyrim on the PS3 last year. I ignored the complaints about Fallout on PS3, thinking "Surely, they've fixed the problems by now." What a mistake. I nearly bought the XBox version during Black Friday so that I could get the DLC content. The news about Dragonborn on the PS3 comes as a very welcome surprise. At this point, I might as well hold on to my PS3 copy of the game. Even if it comes to the PS3 and works, however, I have learned my lesson. Bethesda + PS3 = Never again.

I'll pick this up on the PC for the XMas Steam Sale in 2013 I guess. This delayed DLC bullshit for PC is just that.

Agreed. The DLC hasn't seemed very appealing so far.

Yikes, Hearthfire hard locks my 360 every single time I walk in to my home. I can't imagine what kind of issues Bethesda is deeming unacceptable on the PS3.

Its really a bummer that they keep sticking it to us pc gamers because Microsoft gives them money. That is there original fans after all. Good to hear PS3 might actually get some of this stuff tho.
