Sly Cooper HD Collection Priced At $40, Might Have 3D Toggle

A good solution if you're into adjusting 3D depth and whatnot.

You've spent big cheese on a new 3D-capable HDTV. Now you want to control how you'll view your games. Good news: the studio behind the Sly Cooper HD collection is chewing on the idea of instituting a 3D depth control toggle, similar to that of the hardware-side capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS.

It's all in the name of control. According to a producer speaking to Kotaku during an event in New York, this sort of 3D depth toggle will give users the power to adjust unique viewing distances or angles, battling a problem that 3D-capable TVs and even the 3DS have: you gotta be in the right place to see the 3D correctly.

This isn't a done deal with The Sly Collection, nor have we heard much from other studios on this matter (we'd like to!), but this seems like the right kind of solution for a big issue with the tech. I say this as a guy who moves around possessed while on a couch with a controller in his hand. It's hard to get comfy when swollen from juices, vitamins, and muscle batter. Just sayin'.

Sony has recently announced that The Sly Collection, a package that includes Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves will go on sale at 40 bones this November. It will support 3D, of course, and also PlayStation Move mini-games.

Never tried these back in the day.  But for 40 bones, I'm a little tempted.

I own them all for the PS2 and I'd buy them again for PS3 compatibility without any of this stuff. Especially for 40 bucks.

@RefreshDaemon:  I only ever played Sly 2, but it was really really good.  I will totally play 40 bucks for three Sly games in glorious Two Dimensionalities

Never played these games and still am not. I to play the a hd update to team ico's games. Never played those but I really would like to in hd. And 3d tv is pointless right now. The only 3d device I am getting is the 3ds.

40 bucks strikes me as pretty steep personally.  I think I'm spoiled by Steam prices though. I guess this is the price the market will uphold at retail outlets still.

Never played any of the Sly games either but they do intrest me and while I could easily say sod 3D I think its good that they include the option as long as it costs us the consumer no more to do so.

The God of War collection is $25 on Amazon - prices will drop.  But 3 games, HDified ain't bad for $40.

What it worries me is that (judging by the videos) it doesn't seem to have the same amount of work the God of War Collection had... Specially in the framerate.

Just as many people care about trophies as they do about achievements. Can you please not litter the comments with your console war tripe?

If I happened to find myself with a 3D TV I would probably grab this. But since I don't see that happening for a while I probably won't get this since I already have Sly 2 & 3 and I originally played Sly Cooper twice when I rented it back in the day.

But I had GoW 1 & 2 and I ended up grabbing that collection when it dropped in price so who knows.

I want an option to use the 3D mode they originally had.

That would be way better.

The series was my favorite platformer series of the PS2.  They're pretty good.

I only ever played the 2nd Sly Cooper game, it was really cool though, even surprisingly so, and since I've since given it away getting this collection might not be such a bad idea.

Fun fact: you can sort of trace some of the face animations in those games to the in-game cutscenes of inFamous, which I always thought looked kinda goofy when applied to realistic looking characters, instead of say, anthropomorphic cartoon animals.

I'm definitely purchasing this, if only to show support for PS2 games getting the HD Blu Ray 3D Super Hyper Whatever treatment. Although from what I hear, the Sly games are pretty entertaining.

Keep 'em coming, Sony!

The word you're looking for is definitely not "toggle," Brad.  A toggle is binary and the ability to not play in 3D is a given.
