Street Fighter X Tekken to Share DLC Across Vita, PS3

It never feels good to buy something twice, especially when it's the same damn thing. That sounds like the story of any hardcore Nintendo fan (I kid!), but with Vita expected to receive ports more or less in line with PlayStation 3 versions, it poses an interesting question regarding the portability of content.

Capcom has a solution for Street Fighter X Tekken: the content works across platforms.

In an interview with Joystiq, producer Yoshinori Ono said downloadable content released for the PS3 version of Street Fighter X Tekken should work on the Vita version, too, provided you're using the same PlayStation Network account on both.

"Yes, they're different hardware, but they're part of the same PlayStation family, so to speak, so we're already talking with Sony about ways to sync things together," said Ono.

There aren't many games where this cross-compatibility would work, but for the times it would, this sounds pretty great.

That's actually kind of neat.

Good stuff. They should have implemented this for the PC & 360 versions of Super Street Fighter IV, though.

This is the greatest news ever. They also confirmed that LittleBigPlanet Vita can use all your console costumes. I can't wait to be able to play against my console friends with my Vita, I like fighters on handhelds ever since I got Darkstalkers and Power Stone on my PSP.

I'm going PS3 for SFxT, having all my other fighters locked to the 360. This is making the Vita even more appealing as I can practice when I'm not at home!

To the issue of paying for it twice games like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 are launching at $39.99 so I wouldn't be bothered buying both versions and for the more expensive fighters I would buy on one platform and wait for a price drop or sale.

A portable arcade stick dock for your PSV sounds like the just the right kind of dumb. I'm guessing we're to not take this as gospel just yet, as the direct quote appears to be that they are merely in talks about this sort of syncing, it'd be great if it happens.

i have to say making that vita that little bit more tempting. i was going to get it on vita regardless as it seems to be getting more and more street fighter X tekken X sony the more exclusive fighters they announce

But will the DLC you buy with this game also work with Ultra Street Fighter X Tekken?

Well I'd hope that they wouldn't charge you twice. They've already managed to sucker you into buying the near exact same game twice.

Rolento, Hugo, and Smash Bros. mode make this game a day 1 for me.

Since the Vita seems it will be getting a fair amount of ports it would be awesome if they gave you a discount on the Vita version if you bought the PS3 version...in an ideal world.

I'm really excited for the Vita, and if I happen to get a PS3 copy of a game as well, it'll be awesome to have the DLC work across both (yeah, I am probably backwards from most people. Spend 2 hours in a train a every day).

I really hope this becomes a standard trend for games that exist on both platforms. I'm even wondering if some PSN downloadable games will just function across the board as well, like PS1 and Minis do currently.

Vita seems to be doing everything right, if they can just lock it down a bit better than the PSP, I see nothing but success for it, as it already seems to be boasting a pretty impressive software library.

Sounds good but they're still going to come out with multiple iterations of every release anyway so buying the same damn thing is part of the "fun"(?) for titles like Street Fighter isn't it?

Oh man, can you imagine when the people start to mod this game on pc and change the skins of the characters?

I'm not sure about this. Remember that they said you can play PS3 games on Vita and vice versa? Maybe you can do that. That's just e speculating though.

Sigh. The PC version of the game runs on Games for Windows Live and uses your existing Xbox Live account (if you so wish) hence they could easily detect your purchase history to allow you to use the DLC on both 360 and PC.

I know the PS3 got the game as I own it. The Vita thing works because they will use the same storefront and online system. Derp.

Edit: The only spanner in the works is how the 360 could detect that you bought the DLC on PC as it uses Steam for DLC purchasing, there's no reason why the PC version couldn't check if you bought DLC on the 360 version, though.

So, this is the third game to have shared DLC announced, after LBP2 and Modnation Racers. Really good that Sony's thought this through in the favor of consumers.

Between little nods like this, games like Ruin, Kojima's whole Transfarring initiative, and the broad scope of the PlayStation Suite platform... The Vita is a Goddamn flagship for the platform-agnostic, cloud-based future. It's fascinating.
