Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Hits Snag, Details Incoming [UPDATED]

Unclear what's causing the problem in rolling out the new dashboard.

UPDATE: The new dashboard is rolling out now. Go nuts!

--

If everything went according to schedule, the new Xbox 360 dashboard would be live...but it’s not.

It’s unclear what’s caused the hiccup, but Xbox evangelist Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb is providing updates as they come in via Twitter, and said there would be an official update later in the day.

“The timing for Xbox 360 dashboard update has been slightly delayed. I’ll have a status update later today,” said Hyrb.

yeah...F*** the new dashboard its just one big mass of ad's and I hate it we traded finally defaulting to a gameplay instant type thing for more ad's I've done the math accross the entire new dashboard there are 40% more ads then before and its ad's for electric cars and axe hair gel.

If I could get my money back for the 2 years of subscription I have left I would cancel my default my gold account to silver right now cancel it and whatever because I'm sick of paying for a service that then forces me to watch ad's its one of the reasons I'm debating getting rid of hulu plus.

I honestly have zero problems with the advertisements in the new dashboard, At a glance their seems to be a similar amount to previous NXE, But it is something that has never bothered me, I barely notice the ad's and the only time I do is when one catches my attention with an interesting product.

Also in the U.K I rarely see an advert that is out of place, 95% of the time it's advertising content for the 360 which is fine, In fact thinking about it now I cannot remember ever seeing anything none relevant to games although their probably has been I just do not remember it.

The new dashboard is fine, its quick and easy to use, Reminds me of the PS3 XMB, Why are so many gamers whinging little girls, In every single topic on every gaming website their will be a group of moaners, complaining about anything and everything, If the new dashboard was perfect those moaners would find something to occupy their time.

why doesnt anyone complain about ads on Steam? Just like Steam, Xbox is mostly advertising the stuff I want in the first place (movies, music and games), so what is the big deal? The way it is now, I turn on the xbox and if Im playing a disc game, that's right there, waiting. If I am watching Netflix, I go to quick play. Easy. Same thing if I want to pick up where I left off on one of my XBLA games. Maybe I am just so used to ads that I mentally filter them out or something, but I seriously never pay attention to them. However, every now and then, one will catch my eye and I will get a deal like one month of gold for a buck.

Live is a marketplace, just like Steam. If you are uncomfortable with that, make a non-XBL gamertag and do everything offline. Advertising is a fact of life and people really need to get over this crap. Unless you are going to write angry letters to Game Informer because the "magazine you paid money for has ads in it", I don't understand the uproar and have never understood it. Sure, PSN doesn't have ads. PSN also has people, including it's supporters, constantly talking about how PSN games don't sell as well as they should. Maybe if Sony actually marketed their wares to people, they'd sell more stuff and make more money.

Hey Patrick. I really liked that thing you did for Playstation Networks BS "You can't sue us" policy. Is there any way you can do that with microsofts service? Even if it is not legally binding, I feel that mailing something to microsoft will make more or a point that I am not going to just lay down to their BS policies that they are trying to turn into fake laws.

@BionicRadd: You do know that you can disable any ad pop-ups in Steam right? It's in the settings menu - turn off the notify me of upcoming releases/sales/etc. When Steam opens on my machines all I see is my games list and friends list. The only time I ever see ads is if I open the store - and those are ads for sales/new releases on the Steam store, as expected on a store front. Honestly my first thought when I read your post was, "Steam has ads?".

Ah! I booted up my Xbox last night for some NHL12 and was expecting to have an update.. guess that explains it! ..unless there is some delay in the update coming to Canada, but I doubt it, we usually get everything the same time as the US (unless you forget to include French..then its a full out boarder stoppage! ...damn Frogs...)

@BionicRadd: when I open steam it goes straight to my library. I never see one ad and if I do get a popup one click on the "x" and it's gone completely. There is no more ad junk in my way after that. I only visit the store to buy exactly what I want, I don't browse. This update is totally different. Your library is purposefully smaller than the ads, and they don't go away. Ever.

I can't judge yet, 'cuz I haven't used it for myself, but I suspect that I will continue to be happy that I still have a drive I can swap in that returns me to BLADES!

@Brackynews: Why the fuck should I care how hard it is for them?

I mean honestly, why should I give a damn about the hardships they face? I pay them and have paid them every year for gold, They make BILLIONS off of us. We should never (baring an act of god situation) be hindered like that. Like Ryan said in the bombcast this week my heart goes out to the guys that are told to make this work, I don't get mad at Vinny if something goes wrong with a video stream but if GB wasn't such a great site with such great community involvement I'd be just as mad at whiskey media as a whole if I couldn't access content I paid for.
