Hey guys, I got this shiny new PS4 and was wondering which platform should I buy this game for. If the visuals/performance on PC are significantly superior to the PS4 that would sway me towards the PC version, but I've heard talk that this game might not be properly optimized on there. What do you guys think?

    PC Specs: GTX 670, i5-3570k, 8gigs ram

I've played all the past ones on PC and they were all fine.

Your PC is more than enough for it.

The only reason to go for PS4 is that PSN deal right now $10 credit if you spend 60, so it'd be $10 cheaper on PSN.

The last few AC games have been under $30 on boxing day, I don't know if AC4 will follow that trend, but something to consider.

I run AC4 on my 660Ti @60frames with everything on high except V-Sync. With v-sync on, it gets locked to 30 for whatever reason. In short, performance wise you should be fine outside of towns.

However, I'll be playing it on PS4 because I prefer ps controllers to the 360 gamepad and it's less hastle to get it up and running on my TV (no having to switch primary monitors / etc).

If you have the console, like you so, I say go for the PS4 version. Only reason I say that is that building a little library can be a smart thing to do, since the launch lineup is... a launch lineup.

Might as well play something nice on your new PS4. I've been playing the PC version and its working perfectly well though.

PS4, I know some have had better experiences but again, some are saying the PC port is bad though it can get patched. I mean even the PS4 version was patched to up res it.

I've had no problems at all with the PC version. Very pleased with how it looks and runs.

I don't know how PC / console game prices compare where you are, but the PS4 version is like 50% more expensive than PC here in the UK.

PC version is cracking, if you do want to have something to play on PS4 (slightly lack lustre launch that it is) it appears to be jolly good there too.

If you play on pc just disable vsync because it locks it at 30fps. If you keep the ambient occlusion on normal and don't use soft shadows you should get a solid 60fps on the ship and between 40 and 50 in town.

PC version's pretty good so long as you take a few seconds to tweak settings. Runs beautifully on my laptop near maxed (and looks incredible). If you want something for your PS4 (new hardware with a dearth of software and such) then it seems like it's pretty damn good there too.

PS4, apparently it is a bad PC port.

No it's not, the game is running smoothly on mine maxed out with just FXAA. The game runs in the low 40's in the dense vegetation areas and then it's 50 to 60 during ship parts and traversing the cities. i7/GTX 770

I've played all the past ones on PC and they were all fine.

Greenmangaming currently has the PC version for $45 when you add their voucher code.

Question: Is the ps4 version targeting 60fps or 30fps?

Hmm... seems the PS4 version runs at a constant 30fps. And 60fps on my PC has always been a big deal for me.

The reason people say it's a bad PC port is because it doesn't run quite as good as it should due to questionable optimization, which is true but that doesn't mean It's broken. In fact the port job itself is actually not bad with added visual effects and an actual graphics menu, unlike AC3.

It's disappointing that you need a monster of a PC to make it run at constant 60fps maxed out, but the PS4 version is not as good as the PC version maxed out, and runs at 30fps... so with your specs you can easily make it look and run better. (source: I have the same rig, except only 4gigs of RAM)

With that rig you're prob okay on the PC, but unless you get a good deal on the PC version you might as well get the PS4 one, the PC port definitely could have been better.

That machine will run it just fine. I have a 3570K machine with a GTX680 which I use as my lounge room "console". I set the sunshafts to low and the shadows to high (the soft shadows are a no go) and it runs just fine with FXAA. As your on a 670 you might need to go to medium shadows but I don't think you will need to adjust much more than that. It will still look nicer than the PS4 version and give fairly solid 60 fps (might hit the odd dip here and there but nothing serious).

@tearhead: I'd say go with the PC version as your rig will make it look nicer and play smoother than on PS4. Just remember to use Nvidias Adaptive vsync instead of the built in version! It'll be smoother and have far less tearing. The exclusive content is also on PC... And it's not really worth it in my opinion. If you want it, get the Digital Deluxe edition from steam.

@tearhead: I'm getting it for PS4 just so I have a reason to turn the thing on. I'm also getting Killzone 4 to see pretty graphics despite having no interest in playing it. These are dire times.

@creamypies: the content is also included in the "Assassin's Creed Black Flag Digital Deluxe Edition" that you can for PC through Uplay or Steam. I know for certain as I've played the Aveline missions on PC. The content is only exclusive on a console level, meaning not for Xbox 360 or One.

Get it for PC. I have a slightly better processor than you, but otherwise same specs and it runs smoothly at 60 fps with a few tweaks. None of the consoles are doing that from what I hear. As for the extra content, you can just watch it on youtube.
