This type of straight-edged weapon, also known as a 'hand-and-a-half sword' due to it having a longer blade and hilt than a normal longsword (allowing for a proper two-handed grip if necessary), yet still being smaller than a full size two-handed greatsword.
They saw use from about 1300 to 1600, however, they were pretty much obsolete after this period.
