Playable Alpha Survival Game
This is my first review, be gentle.
Brutal Nature:
I came upon this title when searching for an open world crafting game akin to Minecraft (it's the baseline, not an advert) I found this game to have less clunky 8-bit graphics and a nicer menu to navigate. The Starting Tutorial kicks off as soon as you land on the Island. It's voiced rather well and humorous and leads you thru the initial first minutes of your gameplay. Once you get an idea of the game, you can mine away using varying sizes of editing tools, including a sphere.
Crafting is deep and related to most real world chemistry ( not that I'm any Chemist, only one semester in JC). But, there are multiple ways to produce items in world, and many options of crafting stations to utilize. Be advised, everything is able to be damaged, so, if your homebase is accessible to others, it may be destroyed in this PVP environment. There are many weapons to build, including the ultimate with HE rounds that will put a hole in the ground 50 feet down.
As for PVP, with the myriad of weaponry, and an acoustical radar minimap, you are sure to know where that last sniper round was shot from. You can build Armor of Leather or Ceramics, and have under layers adding to your resistances. Aside from other players, at this writing, there are only two other moving objects (MOB's): Boars and Bears. They come in multiple sizes and require less or more effort to kill. They produce both; a major food source, and your sole resource of Leather.
Packaged with your Client Download is a Server that will allow you to serve up your own island if you so choose, above and beyond the 'single player' option that is also currently available. I am not a modder in any sense of the term, but it has been mentioned to me that there is a slew of modding that can be accomplished with this game. I have delved into some of the source files and seen something that looks to be plain text with notation thruout. If you know how to mod, this might be something of interest.
All this is from over 50 hours playtime on 2 of the steady releases from the development team. I continue to look forward to updates as there are provided, and blogged daily from the Site.
