DEEP SILVER ENTERS INTO A RELATIONSHIP WITH ATLUS

Publisher Deep Silver closes a publishing agreement for action-adventure/puzzle game Catherine with ATLUS

Deep Silver today announced the closing of a publishing agreement with publisher ATLUS for Catherine, their new action-adventure/puzzle mix. Under this contract Deep Silver has gained the publishing rights for all PAL territories.

“We are very proud to be able to publish Catherine in all PAL territories as a Deep Silver game”, says Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver. “Catherine is something new, fresh and exciting; unlike anything else in the gaming world – a unique mixture of genres. This agreement proves once again that games published under the Deep Silver label are not ‘more of the same’, ‘run of the mill’ productions.”

“ATLUS is very pleased to collaborate with an experienced, passionate publisher like Deep Silver for the release of Catherine in Europe,” stated Shinichi Suzuki, President and CEO of ATLUS/Index Digital Media, Inc.. “Like us, they are dedicated to releasing interesting, unique entertainment content for their fans. They share our belief that Catherine’s unprecedented exploration of the psychology and horrors of commitment and relationships, its breathtaking visual design, and its frantic action-adventure/puzzle gameplay make for a thought-provoking, entertaining experience that cannot be missed.”

Catherine from Atlus and Deep Silver will be released in PAL territories for multiplatform consoles. Catherine will feature localised text in French, Italian, German and Spanish

I'm rather suprised they bother with a FIGS translatation

Figs are delicious.

Had the entire gameplay not been based on one puzzle element. I would have picked it up

#4 Posted by laurence83 (2 posts) -

Great news.  I can't wait to pick this up.  I wish more games would come out with serious sexual adult themes like this.

#5 Posted by Sogeman (874 posts) -

I'll just watch a playthrough. Then I can skip all the gameplay.

#6 Posted by Mutley (300 posts) -

Awesome!

Can't wait to pick this game up!

@mutha3: Freaking awesome, just like you predicted mate. :)

Honestly,I would be much less interested if this was an adventure game or an RPG. I really appreciate the devs trying to make an experience that is literally unlike anything out there. The closest match you can make to Catherine's gameplay(intelligent cube, Q-bert).....Is only so on a very superficial level(blocks).

It does have some adventure game elements, though.
#10 Posted by zyn (2591 posts) -

I'm only going to pick this up if they kept the Japanese dub.

#11 Posted by MaFoLu (1859 posts) -

Great, now I have to buy this game, I was hoping to have the excuse of having to import it and thereby saving my money...

Even though the puzzle gameplay doesn't look that great, I really want to play it.

YES!

I'm going to pick it up at the very least i hope this will bring future persona games over at some point

On the Invisible Walls podcast they said that Catherine was just a game to try out Atlus' new engine in preperation for a new Persona game. No idea if they had a quote somewhere to back that statement up with, but it sounds kind of likely.

"they" in this context is Atlus Japan, and if they didn't do it with the US version, they're not going to do it with the European version.

Fuck yes! I wonder what cover we will get...

You can't play the American 360 version on a European 360, as far as I know.

You can on the PS3 though.

Also, Sorry Deep Silver, I'm importing!

Congratulations to our European brethren. This is great news.

Fuckin' hell yes!

Awesome news! Very surprised that it was Deep Silver who picked it up though.

I personally don't give two shits but this sure is great news for those that do. Didn't really expect this to come over here any time soon.

Unless you have advance knowledge nobody has said if the US version is region locked.  However, the japanese one was and since atlus sold the euro rights it seem likely.

If they release it in autumn this game is going to get buried.  What are the bets they hold it for the new year?
#31 Edited by Cloudenvy (5891 posts) -

@alternate:

Let's just say that I'd be extremely surprised if the 360 version wasn't region locked, heh.

@DonutFever:

Alcoholic sheep sounds like a monster I never want to meet, ever.

I saw an Atlus rep confirm it online.

Huh, a pretty interesting publisher to pick it up. Now I can be all picky and say I'm happy 505 games stayed away from it, time to place a preorder.

They did good by P3P in fairness, the extras seem like a nice bonus. Its just a shame people had to wait so long for an actual release, I think had imported it by that point.
#36 Posted by damswedon (3200 posts) -

Now I can get the Katherine boxart.

#37 Posted by JoyfullOFrockets (1177 posts) -

FUCK YES.

#38 Posted by TeflonBilly (4713 posts) -

Phew, I managed to cancel my pre-order of an import Catherine for PS3 so I can get the 360 one when it's released.

What can I say, I'm a points whore. :P

#39 Edited by afrofools (1357 posts) -

@CrazyChris: The game was in development for a long time (apparently) and they use Gamebryo as their engine (though maybe they modified it so much you'd be right - which is plausible).

EDIT:

& Thanks @mutha3: for the tip, I was worrying I wouldn't get a chance to play it.

#40 Posted by LiquidPrince (16109 posts) -

@mutha3: Well it says text right. They would have to do that.

#41 Posted by J12088 (462 posts) -

Gotta wonder how long it's going to take to release. Those translations are no doubt going to take there time. Bleh. Anyone know a good site to import American PS3 games?

#42 Posted by TeflonBilly (4713 posts) -

Bleh, when no more concrete news came about this after a week and a half I just imported the PS3 version instead.

It's a shame Rising Star wasn't the company who picked this up. They've been great at porting over niche titles here in Europe in a somewhat timely manner (At least for Europe) and have always been good with updates.
