Azrael is the codename used by two men in DC Comics, both of which have crossed paths with Batman. The Michael Lane version of Azrael recently made an appearance in Batman: Arkham City.
After witnessing the cold-blooded murder of his parents, young Bruce Wayne swore to combat the evil that took their lives. Using his family's fortune, he travelled the world, training to physical and mental perfection. Once his training was complete, he returned to Gotham City as the Dark Knight, Batman.

The Joker is Batman's archnemesis. First appearing in Batman #1 in 1940, he schemes against the Caped Crusader to this day. He was played by various actors including Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill, Richard Epcar, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix.
The Penguin is a short deformed man who is one of Batman's greatest foes. He builds high tech umbrellas and uses them as weapons. He also seems to have an unusual obsession with birds.
