Dangan Ronpa's characters can be hit or miss, but the dark and ultra-slick mystery is worth experiencing. 2

(Disclaimer: I played the game using the translation patch by Project Zetsubou. In addition, I will attempt to remain as spoiler free as possible, but some will be inevitable.)High school. A time of raging hormones, weirdly inflated self-worth, and the conflicts that occur when those two things meet. Needless to say, I do not reflect on my time in high school as a positive experience. However, compared to the students of Kibougamine Academy in Spike's Dangan Ronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no...

A Great Visual Novel, A Mediocre Game 0

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a game I finished last year, but I didn’t review it at the time. I also recently finished Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and wanted to review it. In order to properly contextualize my thoughts on that game though, I think it is best that I start with Danganronpa.By now, many of you have heard of the premise of Danganronpa. You play the role of one of a group of students who have recently arrived at the prestigious Hope’s Peak Academy. Upon arriva...

Mini Review: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc 0

Editor's Note: I wrote this review a year ago but never posted it till now. Ah it's been a few months since I've just enjoyed a game with a interesting cast of characters and a compelling story to go along with it. What gameplay this game has is minimal with the main focus being on figuring what piece of evidence is required to prove someone is lying. This is presented a few different ways throughout the game. The main one is to use a "truth bullet" to break a highlighted statement during a non...

A fun, zany experience that can't help itself from tripping over it's own language and mechanics. 0

In Spike Chunsoft's visual novel-like Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, you assume the role of a new student at Hope's Peak Academy, where along with your fellow new classmates, you are forced into a game where the only way to win and leave the school that has become your prison is to kill one of your peers and get away with it. There are so many books, movies and other video games that this elevator pitch could allude to that it's not even worth it to try and write them all down, but what shoul...

A flawed, but amazing visual novel that must be experienced by fans of Ace Attorney or Battle Royale. 0

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a frustrating game. On one hand, the premise is incredibly unique. Fifteen Japanese high school students arrive at Hope's Peak Academy, a high school for the best of the best. Each of them were chosen for being the "Ultimate" at what they do, whether it's being a popstar, baseball player, swimmer, gang leader (um, what?), etc, with the exception of the main character, Makoto, who got to attend the school just by winning a lottery. When they arrive at the scho...
