One of my absolute favorite things about this game is that song. I can't possibly be the only one that almost always hangs out at the load screen for a few moments before I start playing.
Dark Souls
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Sep 22, 2011
A quasi-sequel to From Software's action-RPG Demon's Souls, set in a new universe while retaining most of the basic gameplay and the high level of challenge. It features a less-linear world, a new checkpoint system in the form of bonfires, and the unique Humanity system.
The Load Game menu music - How often do you just sit and listen?

Totally agreed. I don't mean to spoil anything, but hearing the final boss music in Dark Souls for the first time contrasted with the on screen imagery was sublime. An understated and beautiful soundscape will always outdo loud, obnoxious bullshit every time I learn a new dragon chant, level up, pick a flower, loot a corpse or take a shit.

@Tesla: You're not alone. I love the load menu and the character creation screen and I always sit there for a while before I start playing as well.
Yes! Glad to hear it, at least I know I'm not crazy.

It reminds me of the Save Room themes from various Resident Evil games. Very relaxing.
Good call!

I'm with you on this. Skyrim did have some good music however. Mainly when walking around at night.

I've left the character creation mode on while I used the computer for awhile and completely forgot I had the xbox on! Love the music in Dark Souls overall. Just so epic and minimalistic.

I probably need to beat this game again...
Just wait for the PC version/DLC next month and bam! Perfect excuse, for me at least.
Nearly every time I have to break up my, uh, immersion intensification material, I do so while sitting at the main menu/load screen of a game. So, pretty often, I'd say. But not with this game so much since I just rented it a couple times. That'll probably change next month when I buy it on PC.
The start/load screen music for LA Noire is burned into my mind, and the flutter of horns that happens when you fail a mission in Driver San Francisco reactivates that part of my brain every time and makes me cringe.

Which is why I prefer the music in Demon's Souls to Dark Souls. Dark Souls has very bombastic music, mainly in boss battles, compared to Demon's Souls. Demon's Souls' music was done by a smaller orchestra and had a very minimalistic sound which made the whole game much more eerie and creepy, especially when you run into the corrupt abominations that make up the bosses.
totally did that with dark souls and demon souls. also with fallout's radio stuff and crusader kings 2 because all that music makes every choice you make in the game feel epic.
Given that I work at a gaming center, I hear load music, menu music, etc all day long. There's some that I thoroughly enjoy, while there are others that I detest. Typically, the former is stuff with songs that I like (Borderlands, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, Grid), while the latter is any form of MMA or wrestling game. That bullshit hard rock is annoying as fuck!
As for original compositions, though, Dark Souls ranks high up there for me.
