Darksiders 2 information blow-out soon, possible GI cover

#1 Posted by Rhaknar (5939 posts) -

a couple of interesting tweets about Darksiders 2 have surfaced recently possibly indicating a GI cover for the july issue (which usually means a lot of information and pictures of the games). First there is this one from Danny Bilson (who works for THQ)

@DannyBilson Danny Bilson

then a couple of tweets from Andy Mac lead me to believe its about Darksiders 2, especially the comic book artist cover (joe mad?)

I liked the first one quite a bit, and think it's one of the most underrated games in years.  Glad a second one's in the works.

@Rhaknar: How do we know it isn't a direct sequel?

So fucking hype, though. Darksiders was one of my favourite games last year, and probably of the last few years. Awesome design, weapons, dungeons and locales, not to mention a pretty satisfying combat system and great weapons/abilities.

WANT.

If I have any criticisms, it's that the lack of NPCs (bar Samael) often led to a feeling that the world was a little barren (it was the end of the world, I know, but surely they could have had a few more characters to interact with). If there had even just been a single demon town, or something to that effect, it would have been perfect.

@GetEveryone: When the game was announced last year (I forget what event this was at) they said it wouldn't be a direct sequel, it's going to take place during the events of the first game but focus on different characters.
#5 Posted by GetEveryone (4455 posts) -
@WinterSnowblind: Hmm, it sounds like it's designed to bridge a gap between sequels then (total speculation). I mean, if we're going to be playing as any of the other horsemen, then surely it's designed to set them up in the same way the first game framed (pun!) War.

Seems at least likely that they're thinking trilogy with this one. We get the second game fleshing out the other characters, and events of the first game, and then the third game is the conclusion.

I'm totally just superimposing my desires onto the little bit of info I've just got... :)

I LOVE Darksiders. Can't wait to see what they have inmind for the sequel!

Can't wait.

I loved the first one, so I will def. buy this one.

Darksiders was my first Zelda game.

I had no childhood.

#10 Posted by valrog (3671 posts) -

I can't possibly wait. I hope The Watcher will return.

#11 Posted by durog (219 posts) -

I just finished the first game recently and I really dug the combat mechanics, I'll definitely pick this up.

#12 Posted by Rhaknar (5939 posts) -

like Winter said, THQ has a press conference (one of those internal things, like shareholder shit) where they said you play a different character and it happens at the same time as the first... which is a weird choice. They also said the first sold 1.3mill which surprised them, but the sequel needs to sell more or there wont be a third (which probably means the sequel has a bigger budget?)

I'd recommend against it; it's a pretty bad port with a bunch of bugs and zero graphical options.

@louiedog: This looks Epic! I wonder what will be the Protagonist's story. I mean, since he's not a Horseman.

AWESOME! Darksiders was one of my favorite games of last year. Can't wait to read some more about this.

@valrog: Looks like Death to me.

Aye that looks like one of them riders.

I'm still hoping for a co op story.

Loved the first one, This artwork needs more fiery horses though.

@SMTDante89: Yeah, but didn't the guy say that he can't have four different apocalypses for the Four Horsemen...

Edit: Oh shi- it is Death!!

With Darksiders II, Vigil looks to deliver a richer experience as players  explore more dungeons, talk with a variety of NPCs, and experiment with a detailed loot system. The horseman War has been sidelined, so it’s up to his brother, Death, to travel through the world of the Abyss and attempt to restore humanity after its destruction during the Apocalypse.

I can't wait to see more NPCs, Vulgrim and The Watcher were awesome (I hope they make a return) and I can't wait what other interesting NPCs wil they create.

Wait wasn't all the talk before that it was going to be Strife starring in the sequel? Seems odd that they would just switch it mid stream.

When I first heard that we weren't going to play as War in the sequel, I was really really hoping we wouldn't have to play as Death. I hated his design. He looked like something you would see on a Z-list metal band's album, but they've improved the design a lot and I think he looks awesome. Can't wait to play this one. (even though I'm still not quite finished with the first.)

Isn't this supposed to be some kind of prequel or whatever? I was hoping for a game that starts right after the first because that ending was fucking awesome.

#24 Posted by Yummylee (21625 posts) -

I too was hoping for a direct sequel with all four of the A(pocalyptic) Team, but frankly more Darksiders, with a different Horseman, still has me excited.

I think I heard that takes place concurrently with the first game? Maybe?

I'm not sure what's true anymore, first they said that you won't be playing as a Horseman and the story will unveil simultaneously with the first one, but now... Things seems to have changed.

Nevertheless, I'm stoked.

Should we remove the stuff about Strife from the Darksiders 2 page then?

Either way, I can't wait to hear more.

I hope they do continue where the last one ended off, either way, I adored Darksiders and I can't wait to see where they take this one.

Death as the main character, seems like it's gonna be cool.

Awesome, I can't wait.  Darksiders was in my top 5, if not top 3 games of last year.  Co-op would be awesome.

Plot wise, is this going to be like Roshomon, where we get multiple perspectives on the same overarching story?

I loved the first, and that cover art has me nothing less than hyped.

That's what it's sounding like.  Death will be running around trying to help out War and prove that he didn't start the Apocalypse early.  The timeline sounds like it will be parallel, but off doing separate things.

@TaliciaDragonsong:  I agree 100 %.  I loved the ending of the first game and part of my whole excitement for the sequel extended around the possibility of some co op ass kicking, horseman style.  Death has a badass art design though and I trust the developers to make a quality sequel, regardless.

But... He wasn't even summoned until the very end? None of them was.

the idea is that Death is trying to clear War's name aparently, while War is off on earth doing his thing. So one can gues the game takes place is all sorts of hell dimensions (whoa?) and that Death meets up with the other 2 and it ends with them going to join War, after they are "summoned"

unless you imagine that they are stuck in a closet until they are summoned :p i agree its a bit contrived but /shrug

As long as it plays like the first one, I'm in. Also being DEATH is epic. War was just as awesome.
#40 Posted by TheFreeMan (2712 posts) -

Oh god, yes. Darksiders was quite possibly my GOTY. Can't wait for this.

#41 Posted by valrog (3671 posts) -
@Rhaknar: I can see it now.

I'm playing through it and loving it but I'm not following the story very closely. Should I?
