Poll Do you think Daylight will beat Outlast in terms of Scare factor? (106 votes)

I think it stands a good chance of succeeding. 11%
I don't think its capable, but it can try I guess. 42%
    I haven't seen enough of this game, so I don't know. 40%
I think it will be on the same level as Outlust, nothing more or less. 8%

Since I'm a fan of Survival-Horror games this game caught my attention. Looks very similar to Outlast in alot of ways except your playing as a chick with a cellphone, but the graphics seem to be on point and it looks like its going to have some tense moments. So far I just hope the story isn't predictable. Usually with a story setup like this you'll have a good idea of what will happen in the end. I think it might end up being more scary then Outlast too from the looks of it. Also I can't help, but think of the thriller song after watching these vids.

I don't know, I haven't seen much from Daylight (and I'm not watching the posted videos), but I'm genuinely looking forward to it. Outlast was a great game though, with some pretty scary parts; I hope Daylight can be as good or better.

I hope so... Outlast was really enjoyable, but the scares did nothing for me.

Ive found that while scary movies do absolutely nothing for me i can not play horror games. I was so scared with Amnesia, Penumbra, and Outlast that i couldn't play any of them for more than an hour. So i have no clue, but with it being proceduraly generated i dont think it will be as scary.

After watching both of Jim Sterling's Squirty Plays for this game, no, I don't think so. I can't handle horror games at all, but this game was just flat out not scary. The ghosts don't look scary, and they appear soooo often that the initial scare factor wears off after about 30 minutes. Also, the game seems to almost always plays a sound to let you know there's a ghost behind you, so you're rarely ever actually surprised. It's disappointing 'cause I always thought this game looked pretty cool before his videos of it popped up, but it looks super generic. It's unfinished, though, so maybe it'll make a big comeback, and the randomly generated thing sounds like it could be really cool if done right.

Outlast was pretty disappointing about halfway through when the game doesn't really have much else going for it other than jump scares.

So, if it can be interesting and scary all the way through it will definitely beat Outlast. I don't know if it will, though. All I know about it is that it's procedurally generated and in my head that tells me it wont be very good to begin with.

Just to be clear, though, I'm not saying Outlast was a bad game. For the first several hours it's legitimately scary.

I'm not super confident, I haven't heard great things about Zombie's past games. I'll wait for reviews, I guess.

Noticed a typo for the fourth option. "Outlust" sounds pretty hot.

Didn't find outlast all that scary. I have hopes for this. Mostly interested about the procedurally generated levels, and the fact that it's UE4

I for one do like most of Zombie Studios previous output, haven't really seen a lot of this, but I'm looking forward to it. Since it was only $10 I preordered it, mostly because I did enjoy their Spec Ops and Blacklight games a lot.

O_O That is quite a list of games that they've developed - especially that Blackwater game.

I'm still going to play Daylight as soon as it's released though. At the very least, I'm interested to check out Unreal Engine 4.

While I found myself quickly desensitized to Outlast's scares, I still enjoyed the mechanics and the atmosphere enough to have fun playing through the whole game. I can only hope Daylight is as strong in those departments.

I'm curious if the procedurally generated levels will add or detract from the experience. On one hand I get the appeal of never knowing whats coming next, on the other hand there is something to be said about meticulously crafted levels as opposed to robotically linked "blocks."

Have you ever had anyone ask you, "Hey man, what's the scare factor on this game?"

On that note, let's bring back Fun Factor as a score in reviews too.

I have plenty of times. Games like Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, Extermination, and other horror games. I had people ask me hows the scare factor. Depending on the game I could say ''its some good shit you need to hit this'' or '' don't bother it ain't worth the hit''.

Can't say I'm too surprised by the scores it's been getting after seeing several videos of it. The basic fetch quest gameplay of these Slender-likes never appealed to me in the slightest. Always comes off as an afterthought, like the developer going "oh we need gameplay or else people will criticize us for just being a haunted house simulator."

Outlast at least is a deliberately crafted experience. Sure, procedurally generated levels lends to replay value, but I find procedurally generated levels to be incredibly lifeless and makes the game more boring.

My own suspicions were confirmed. You can't just make a procedurally generated scary game and have it have a lasting effect. Some may argue that this gives the game 'longevity', but facing the same elements over and over again breeds familiarity, and familiarity means that the scares become less and less potent. Say all you want about Outlast, at least every jump scare was different throughout the whole game. Would both Outlast and Amnesia have been scarier if the levels were randomised every time you played? Of course not, they were both tightly crafted and designed experiences, and the lasting appeal of them reflects that. Procedural generation does have its place in games, but not in horror.

Also, this does not look the game to debut Unreal Engine 4 with. It just doesn't look great, Outlast looked and played far better on every platform, and that was Unreal Engine 3.

Edit: Also, I try not to be too picky about graphics, but the fire looks like it's paper thin, that if you walk to the side of it you won't even see it anymore.

Edit 2: Oh jeez, I completely forgot about the Twitch integration stuff. That tells me all I need to know about what the developers of this think constitute scariness.

Purchased day one due to the dearth of compelling releases at the moment.

Haven't played it yet but I'm intrigued by the premise and the spattering of high, medium, and low reviews suggests that this is the kind of game that at least splits opinion (i.e. it isn't undisputedly good or bad).

I bought Amazing Spiderman 2 and Daylight out of being bored. I'll talk about Daylight since its the topic. I was playing the game for abit until I got glitched in a wall, but from my experience so far its been underwhelming.

-The game looks old and enemy animations are wonky.

    - Story seems like its going to be predictable.

    - Tries to be spooky, but fails in many areas.

    - Confusing map layout, repetitive dialogue from Sarah.

    - Enemy doesn't look interesting or scary.

It was silly of me to think this game had a chance to beat outlast, game set itself on a one way trip to snap city.

Sadly its pretty bad> I'm like 2 hours in and its boring and repetitive and not scary plus it has some nasty bugs on PC like options menu staying on screen and you are not able to turn it off.
