    Overview

Derby Stallion '98 is the fifth core game in ASCII Corporation's Derby Stallion series of horseracing simulators and the last to be released for the Super Famicom. The game was technically only available on Nintendo's digital distribution Nintendo Power service, which had players take a special blank cart to kiosks across Japan to download classic Super Famicom games onto it for a small fee. However, a week before the game was officially added to the service, Nintendo sold a version of the special Nintendo Power blank cart with the game already pre-installed.

The game is largely based on Derby Stallion '96, just with new data for all various horses and stables of the 1998 season. Like Derby Stallion '96 the game was also compatible with Derby Stallion for the Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn, trading competition winnings and other data. The next Derby Stallion game, Derby Stallion '99, is a Sony PlayStation exclusive.
