Was thinking about picking this up today and I have a quick question. My friend has the normal not reaper of souls version but all I can find are the reaper of souls version. Will I be able to play with him if I buy the reaper of souls one or do we both need to have the expansion to play together?

I sincerely doubt it, especially since Blizzard went through the trouble of allowing users to export saves to the Ultimate Evil edition from regular editions on the last gen consoles.

I'd just buy a used copy of the game, which should be really cheap seeing as there's a better version available now. Should you ever decide to get a new console, you can just upgrade later. I love the new features, but if you know you'd be able to play a bunch with a good friend, I'd take the co-op instead.
