Obviously I am. It does look quite good. There is just something about intentionally broken games that I like.
Who else is on board?

This guy. I'm temped to wait for the PS Vita version. The inclusion of being able to skip animations in the PSP version of 1 and 2 halves the amount of time needed to grind, making them the best versions in the series. That might be enough to make me wait.

I'm not willing to throw several more months of my life away just yet.
(But I will, eventually).
I have never actually gotten more than 10 hours into a disgaea game but this time I feel different. Mostly because I am too easily tempted to cheat at PS2 games and I have a hard time playing PSP games for very long.
I've been staring at a copy of Disgaea 3 in my local game store for months now. I'm a little unsure if I should buy it. Sell me on these games.
It's a tough sell because these games are super niche. At first it looks like a Final Fantasy Tactics type SRPG, but the more you play the game the more it becomes obvious that it is a time-management game. Don't be scared though. I believe that one of the great design choices of this series is that you can choose your own complexity level for the series. To beat the main story all you really need to do is create a couple of characters and hit attack enough times to level up, but if you want to go deep, there is more complexity hidden under the surface than most games. Then there is the amount of content, hell, my Disgaea 2 save on PSP is over 450 hours and counting.I've been staring at a copy of Disgaea 3 in my local game store for months now. I'm a little unsure if I should buy it. Sell me on these games.

Its an SRPG that is really hard at its surface until you figure out how to break its systems, then you start doing crazy awesome shit.
I probably won't pick it up on the day it comes out (won't have the money), but I will get it sometime soon, hopefully.

@RockmanBionics: Yeah, I'm told the first one had the best story, but does anyone think the iteration of 4 maybe makes it worth starting there? Story usually isn't that important to me
They're all stand alone stories, except for some references, but those are more like in jokes
@iirobdog: They seem to all be self-contained stories so I don't see why you could not. Also, as mentioned I didn't play any of the games past the first one (and I didn't put in a ton of hours past the main story either) so I can't really speak for the later ones gameplay, but I'm sure it must both look better and play better by now.
@Bocam: Checked the Wiki, I was under the impression that he was only in the latter ones as a unit. That said, brief cameos don't really spark my interest.
Truthfully though, these are all just excuses made to to keep me from buying another 100+ hour RPG, feel free to ignore my shallow whining.
I tried to get into Disgaea with part 3 and I really liked the dialogue and the world it set up, but couldn't get into the actual game play at all. All I ever really did was set up a bunch of people near one enemy and then attack and hope it did a combo attack with the other allies to do more damage. I was never really sure if I should be grinding or doing something different.
Got my "your product has been shipped" confirmation email on Friday so hope I'll be seeing it within the next few days. Yay :D
@Bocam: Fine! So I dont know anything, I admit it!
Also those scenes were way funn-STOP MAKING ME WANT TO PLAY THESE!!
I am and very excited about it! I personally liked the second the best hope this one is as good or better!
My copy is on its way. I'm a little underprepared for a four or five month long gaming session, so I suppose I'd better go stock up on pizza, rum, and ice cream now. Oh sweet momma, this is one of my favorite game series and I cannot wait to get back into another one.
I've had a really strange relationship with the Disgaea franchise.
I bought the first Disgaea twice, once for PS2 and again for PSP and never put more than 10 or so hours into it. I don't like how it seems like Laharl is the only useful character, at least from as far as I ever got. Disgaea 2 sunk its teeth into me and didn't let go for over a year, sunk in over 200 hours and did a bunch of the post-game stuff. Disgaea 3 I liked for the most part but couldn't get my head around some of the new systems it introduced and fizzled out, in spite of starting it twice. Got 4 comin' in the mail and I'm really lookin' forward to it, hoping this one clicks with me.
Really liking it. Alot of the stuff that might have made me not want to play the old ones is gone. Though never played 3 so I don't know if those issues were fixed then.
Does anyone know when you get the ability to create your own maps and such?
also the music isn't so good that they needed to keep it around for 4 games...
