Absolutely nothing. I never played a Duke Nukem game before but he seems like quite a big deal, so I might rent DNF when it releases.
Duke Nukem Forever
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jun 14, 2011
After approximately fourteen years of development, the heavily infamous sequel to Duke Nukem 3D was finally released, in which the macho Duke must damper yet another alien invasion.
What does Duke Nukem mean to you? (If anything)
It's honestly a mix of all those things. I have fond memories of playing DN3D with my brother years ago. Playing it today, it still holds up great, and the combination of the level design, arsenal, enemies, the character of Duke and just the general attitude of the whole game makes it stand out to me. I really hope Forever can capture all of those aspects to make another great game.
When I was in high school, I was such a huge computer geek they put me in a senior computing class. I was nervous of not fitting in cause all my classmates were 2-3 years older than me. Then one day I found 3 nerds loading Duke3D on the lab's network so they let me play and damn was it fun. I felt nerd acceptance by the older kids through Duke3D death match.
So yeah, it's purely nostalgia.
Oh... and remembering when stupid, ridiculous fun was a good thing in video games. I know a lot of y'all who are saying you don't care or it's a cash grab or whatever but think about it. If it was a cash grab, they obviously did it wrong because of how long it took and how expensive it was to make. And if you don't care either you don't like shooters (fair enough), or you're likely too young to have really played the first. I get it. But man, do we have to be so jaded about everything? Can't a game just be stupid and about nothing more than violence, b00bs and animated toilets? What's wrong with that? Sure, Ico and games are art and JRPGs and all that stuff but c'mon... running around and shooting things and idiocy is good too.
I have no real attachment to the character/setting/etc... My experience with the franchise is just that I played the original games - I never played Duke Nukem 3D, though.
DNF is fascinating to me, though, mainly because of the historical side of things; it's amazing that the game is finally being released. So that's what it means to me - an end of a chapter in video game history.

Childhood lolzAhaha i don't want to pull the "You dumbass CoD and Halo kids" argument out my ass, but I have to say DK3D WAS my childhood. Back then parents didn't know much about rating systems (and they still don't quite) and I asked my parents for the ultimate collection for my birthday present. It was a lot of good times sneaking up on sunday mornings to the only computer in the house and playing it. Part of Duke Nukem for me was the varied and highly interactive environments to explore.
Now, before you ask, no, i was not into e-tits back then, nor am i now.
