Earthlock: Festival of Magic is a role-playing game that uses turn-based combat. Enemies are shown on screen and can be avoided or attacked. If multiple enemies are encountered within a close proximity they will all be in the battle.

A column of images is shown on the right side of the screen with portraits of the players characters and the enemies in the battle stacked on one another. The order of the portraits from the bottom up determines which order characters will attack. The order of the attacks will be determined by the character/enemies speed stat, and can be manipulated through some of the characters and enemies abilities.

    Stances

While in combat, each of the players characters has a stance. The stance determines which kinds of attacks the player can perform. Stances can be changed during a battle, but will use that character's turn. Some of the stances attacks will require items to perform. If the player runs out of these items the attack can not be performed.

For instance, Amon can attack with a melee weapon in his thief stance, but changing to hos blaster stance will allow him to utilize his spud gun for ranged attacks.

    Talent Board

Leveling up the characters unlocks talent points (TP) that can be spent on the talent board. All characters have a separate one, which allows the player to customize each character however they want.

The talent board houses three different types of tiles that can be set on the board, given the right tile piece is available. Stat tiles allow the player to increase/decrease several stats on the characters. Ability talents unlock new skills and Perk talents unlock passive abilities for the different characters.
