The title was published in Japan by Nihon Falcom for the PlayStation 4 on September 27, 2018 and marked the end of the Cold Steel sub-series that stared Rean Schwarzer as the lead character, even containing the subtitle of "The End of Saga" in Japan. Two years later, NIS America published the PS4 version of Cold Steel IV in North America on October 27, 2020 with ports for the PC and Nintendo Switch planned to be released in 2021, with PH3 Games and Engine Software heading their development.
