I seriously hated being this character.
Ethan Thomas
Character » appears in 2 games
Protagonist of the Condemned series and former investigator in the Serial Crimes Unit.
The official Ethan Thomas is a jerk thread
"Why?"
He is completley unlikeable. I mean come on - in the first ten minutes we see him drinking shots with a crushed pill in it, and then a little later he kills an innocent dude for no reason.
Hahaha...no.
Did you never play Condemned 1? You'd be driven to drink in that. Plus, thanks to the events of Condemned 1, (plus alcohol I imagine) he suffers hallucinations that make people appear to be demons. He can't help it. He's a sympathetic character, he just doesn't want to be helped.
One thing I will say though, is I thought he was ugly in Condemned 2, but he looks even worse in the first game...
"Hahaha...no.Agreed- makes a myth that alcohol make soyu more attractive seem true!

man, if Ethan Thomas was real, I'd be terrified of talking shit about him. But for now, I'm happy to call him an ugly bitch.
*sees copy of condemned slide towards him*
OMIGOD, TEH GOST OF ETHAN H8S MEEEE!
*runs away*
"Oh he is awesome, and badass and id hate to get in a fight with him - but he is one severely f**ked up S.O.B ANd theres no denying all those fights have gave him a face only mother could tolerateEthan Thomas is awesome, don't talk mess about him.
"
Ethan Thomas is the most badass playable character in a first person game ever. Featured in Condemned: Criminal Origins and Condemned 2: Bloodshot.
Ethan was the man in Condemned, but I agree with Mr. Meadows about him in Condemned 2. He just seemed like a dick.

So true.

So truer.
Who wouldn't seem like a bit of a dick after an experience like that..it was a realistic character and how they would seem if they were driven mad, if you had only played condemned 2 I wouldn't expect you to understand him at all, if you have played both though I don't understand what you don't get.
I still can't believe they turned Ethan into such a retarded character by the end of Condemned 2...
Because it started off so well, based on the context of the character. I just like to imagine the last level never happened...
same. Shame is...there's just too many. You've gotta root out the true narcisists. Ethan is one of them ^_^
Fair enough.
I just like a bit of reason and stability in a medium of entertainment. For instance, if a game goes about preaching that hand to hand combat and using objects in the environment are the centre of it's combat system, I dislike when they try and throw you off with awkward maneouvers like yelling at people to make them die. It's like they aren't honoring their commitment...
I loved the whole "confronting his demons" theme and would have liked more elaboration on it. What really pissed me off about Bloodshot (note - I still love that game) was how the game eventually turned into a FPS. It completely defeated the game's pure purpose:
Bashing dudes' faces in with bricks and industrial presses.
Hear, Hear!
*drinks a pint whilst crushing the head of that freaking annoying Lollipop lady boss in the bench press*
"Hear, Hear!

OH MY GOD! GAREAKSDFKLASJDRKLFASJDRL
That bitch! Ugh, I hated her. That fucking saw! I took so much satisfaction in her death and continued to beat her lifeless corpse long after her final twisted breath.
That rhymed, btw. Not intended, still cool nonetheless.
I thought the Knight was even worse...
I mean, sure, once you knew what to do, he was peanuts, but I spent hours beating the shit out of him before figuring out that I should have used the crossbow.
...
And don't get me started on that fucking bear...
The bear wasn't nearly as bad as the Knight. I did what I could to get the fuck away from him and laughed as thugs accidentally stepped in front of his war axe. But when I got into the main exhibit and couldn't run away I was practically tearing my hair out I was so scared.
I kept shooting him with crossbows and finally one hit him in the stomach. The rest was history.
There is one thing that I didn't get about the bear. After he attacks you, you are dragged out into the snow. At first I assumed it was the injured guard, but you never see him again. Who the hell pulls you away?
I know...I first thought I'd injured the bear, who ate the guard and dragged me to the snow but we never see the bear either. It's a plot hole as far as I can tell. Something that should be addressed, but never is.
I would say that they might address it in Condemned 3, but Ethan never even mentiosn the fact that he miraculously escaped the bear's jaws by a savior who is never mentioned anywhere in the game. His absence isn't even questioned. I hate plot holes. D:

(Sorry for the bump)
@MatthewMeadows: As far as I could tell, Ethan didn't kill the dude in the bar, just beat the shit out of him.
Ethan Thomas is badass. That's why he was on GB's list of people they'd mot like to party with.
Being a haunted guy who's trying to drink away the memories of all that happened in the first Condemned, brutally beating the shit out of anyone looking at him sideways and still being a pretty smart sleuth.
He's one of the more "tough guy" in an entertaining, somewhat original way that has appeared in a video game in years.
He's nuanced, he's tortured, his VO is cool.
In short, you may think he's a jerk, but the character is pretty well fleshed out over the games unlike people like Master Chief or Sev.
Dorland (I thought) was kinda of a nerd
Ethan was a BMF, I mean after loosing his career (not just a job, but a career!), which drove him to drink so much he developed Delerium Tremens (the DT shakes) which also makes his halusinate. not to mention that the fact where Ethen is a 'mean' guy in the 2nd one, I thot he had every right to be livid esp. due to the fact he was 'condemned' by "Hate" and other stuff. So now his additude makes sense..he's got nothing else to lose.... he doesn't want any help from just anybody (i.e. some random stranger), he's a bum, and as we all know, a drunk...So this guy HAS TO drink (hence the DT syndrom-which btw cuases u to look really pale as well, so that explains his ugliness), and you could tell he was really tired..... but I really liked his character, actually, and did anyone else notice the abundance in Yaiger? (sp?). I jus thot that smome of the response choices were kind of funny... like "how do you spell Oro?" I can see it now... (during his 1st interview with SCU)... Employer: (looking back over Ethen's Resume) "Mm,k, good..good, seven-year investigations degree.. good, good, okthen. Any questions Mr. Thomas?" Ethan: "uh, yeah...um... how do you spell 'Oro'?" Employer: "Great! You're hired!" Ethan: "uh... okay, btw where's the nearest bar?" Actually, that bar question would have been a good interruption during his SCU interview. lol
