The little king that could.
Final Fantasy has been know to venture outside it's comfort zone and as such has led to either some good games or some semi bad games but with My Life As A King i'm happy to report that square was able to take their most beloved franchise and mix it with a simulation format and it worked beautifully. Your a tiny king who is tasked to rebuild an old kingdom and with the help of your side kicks and soldiers for hire you can conquered dozens of quests that each have their own reward.
Story- My Life as a King takes place after the events of final fantasy crystal chronicles, in a remote area of the peaceful world where the miasma that destroyed the land has now cleared. As a young king who having lost his father's old realm to the Dark Lord, now tries to revive his kingdom through a mysterious power called "Architek" that he received from the crystal. With each mission completed you will unlock more segments that will flush out the story. Although short compared to most FinalFantasy games MLAAK is still a worthy playthrough.
Graphics- I was actually surprised when i saw how well the game looked. all the characters were nicely detailed and the kingdom itself was done with great detail. Outside of the kingdom is also nicely done so much so that you wish that you could travel the lands and sight see. Also thought i'd note this but sometimes when your building and it get's a little too busy the game's frame rate will drop drastically it's not a big issue as it's rarely happens but just letting you know.
Control- Everything works with very little complaint the only thing i had a minor issue with was the camera being that the game needs a full view being able to rotate the camera at will would have been great but instead you just keep hitting a button to re-align your camera.
Sound- Decent really it's a small game by today's standards but all the sounds that are in the game are well done. The clings and chimes are not annoying and the music makes the in game day fly by. And when the story cinematic comes up the music get's a dark tone to it.
Replay- Sadly the only part of the game that is weak, once you play and beat the game you can get a new game plus but other than stronger dungeons and some added items it doesnt warrent another play through unless your full on addicted to the game play.
Final Word- Other than the questionable replay value and the wonky camera this game is amazing and 10 years down the road will still be amazing mainly cause of it's accessibility and being able to make your own kingdom is just way too much fun.
