Square Enix producer, Shinji Hashimoto, Tweeted the following regarding the possibility of a Game Archives release of Final Fantasy IX last Friday:  
 

"Thanks to everyone for your opinions on FF9. Regarding an FF9 download release, everyone is so passionate about it that I'll be proposing it at the next board meeting. Look forward to next week!"

"The presentation went well. The result will come on Friday. Everyone, please pray."

 "Fortunately for FF9, it's the 10th anniversary, so many of the board members approved."

I don't see why they would even have to go through this to get FFIX approved for being released as a PlayStation Classic title.  FFVII and VIII have sold so well that it should have been an automatic decision from the top.

ff9 is awesome i bought a second one even though i beat the game cause my 4th disc was scratched thats how much i enjoyed it.  i think more ppl will be able to enjoy this one than the other ff cause the fidelity of the graphics still hold up today

Well they released VII and VIII on the store so I don't see why they can't release IX.  Never finished the game due to crappy CD rental conditions.
