I heard about this on the 8-4 Play podcast, but apparantly they are going to re-release Final Fantasy XIV. Naoki Yoshida and staff basically lay out their plans on retooling and rebooting XIV. As someone who was excited about XIV before release and basically got hit in the face with crap, im kind of up and down on this news. Maybe ill give them another chance, but it still seems like its going to be a long time till it gets released.

It would make a lot of sense for them to allow a full one-month free for everyone to come back and check out the changes. Pretty much this could bring in a lot of new people as well as veterans who are skeptical to see if they really did anything to entice them.

    Great marketing too.

I went in and saw what they changed the other day, and the game seems better for it.   But seems a little too late to get back all the people they burned buying it at launch.

The UI for 2.0 looks so terrible and cluttered to me.

I think they should just give up with this game. With such a bad history and terrible word of mouth even if it's called 2.0 I highly doubt it'll do much better. They just need to devote more people to Versus XIII!!!!

Then wait I shall. GW2 should hold me over...

@Cloudenvy: Isn't that image just concept art? It doesn't look that much more busy compared to other traditional MMOs.

Is it going to be called XIV v2.0? That's too many numbers.

I was listening to the 8-4play podcast today and heard them mention this. I meant to go and look for the pictures they were talking about but I was playing Dark Souls at the time... so... y'know.

Anyway, thanks for the link. I was interested in XIV as well and graphically it looked really pretty, so I was excited for it. Then it turned out to be shit and I never did get it.

I think I'm interested in this. I thought XIV looked really nice, but the gameplay was broken. Maybe this will get me back in.

And is it weird that Cloudenvy's picture looks very good to me?

The link should be on here for people interested of what v2.0 will actually have. Pretty nuts. Just reminds me that FFXIV was released with nothing in it. It was like wow with no pvp, instances, poorly coded slow ui, no AH search feature, no player search.

    anyway here's a summary,

PVE instances such as 'Defend Hamlet' which sounds like a interesting concept to me 'Dark Moogle' 'Primordial Garuda'

PVP: appears to have arena style planned as well as a 3 team domination mode

Completely new UI: so it doesn't take 30 seconds to get a new move on your action bar

completely new servers: So you don't have to wait years between inputing text and searching for players

    New Job system

    New recipes

Things for communities to do and communicate easier.

I may come back for this last time i logged in though the game was a barren wastelend filled only with those vendors you leave while your logged out.

Graphics are so damn awesome. Hope they overhaul it and make it Final Fantasy XI 2.0.

Hopefully it's not too late. I really wanted to enjoy this when it was released, but damn it was in terrible shape, felt like an alpha build.

So basically, like an abusive husband, Square is telling you to come back and "Things will be better this time. I promise".

@ESREVER: Are you in the UK? If you are, it's on Amazon UK to preorder for £7.81. This has got to be a mistake, but if you preorder now you get covered by their pre-order guarantee. You can cancel it at any time, so if you're wanting to give it a go on the cheap, it might be an idea.

Thats pretty amazing. I really want to give the game a shot when it comes out on PS3 so I may as well pre-order since they dont charge you until its released.

So if I bought FFXIV right now on Amazon would I be able to install that disc and play the current version?

No. There are no servers up for the old version and the new version is in limited alpha testing. Once 2.0 is out you will probably be able to upgrade to the new version from whatever you install but you'd be better off just waiting.

You can apply to the beta of the new version hereif you want.
