Final Flames 2: Against the Dark World Crisis is a 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up game developed by Lame Dimension and released on May 5, 2017. The game includes a story mode for each character and supports local co-op. The game's development started in August 2011, but the game's files were lost around March 2011. One of the developers recovered the file in January 2016 but the rest of the team already dispersed. The rest of the game's development was done alone by a single developer, resulting in many borrowed assets and poorly drawn art.

    Gameplay

The team goes all out with various attacks as they get surrounded by enemies.
The team goes all out with various attacks as they get surrounded by enemies.

Being a side-scrolling beat 'em up, the game requires the player to defeat enemies in the screen to make progression within the level. The game, however, automatically moves the player to the next scene after clearing a wave of enemies. Final Flames 2 features four playable characters, and one unlockable character. These characters include King, Naira, Faliyos, Alen, and Jonnel, with the last being the unlockable character. Players are allowed to switch to any of these characters any time during gameplay. The player loses the game when all of the characters are dead and no revives are on hand. The player can also recruit AI controlled characters they meet by helping them. Completing the game gives an ending specific to the character that lands the killing blow on the final boss. There are a total of seven levels in the game.

    Controls

The game focuses on a five-button gameplay that can be utilized with either a keyboard or a gamepad. These buttons allow the player to perform a jump, a basic attack, a skill attack, an assist summon, and an unleash, which is the character's strongest move that can only be used when their meter has been filled.

Basic attacks are able to be cancelled into a skill attack or a smash attack, allowing the players to extend their combos. Smash attacks varies with each character, either serving a different utility or proving a stronger attack. This can be performed by moving forward and pressing the basic attack button.

The assist work where players can summon a character to throw out a move, generally to aid the player and extend their combos. Assists take up a small amount of Menergy Points, but this is generally less than the amount of Mernergy Points needed to perform a skill attack.

    Main Arc

In the year 20XX, Jonnel, a young man who saved his city years ago, has gone missing. His stalker, Naira, is concerned and alerts Jonnel's three companions, King, Faliyos, and Alen, about his absence. At the same time, the three are already investigating an incident where the dark forces from the dark world they have fought with Jonnel years ago have returned to attack their city. Believing that there is a connection, Naira joins the three to solve the incident and possibly finding Jonnel. The main problem, however, is that Jonnel himself is the new commander of the dark forces.

    Extend Arc

Jonnel attempts to solve the mystery of his friends' hostility towards him.

The Extend Arc is attained after finishing the main story mode of Final Flames 2 with Jonnel. Jonnel's ending will take the player on whole new gameplay style, which mimics RPG Maker horror games. In this, Jonnel explores the mystery why his friends are suddenly hostile against him and gets lost in a mysterious place. This arc is intended to explain the backstory as to why Jonnel was with the dark forces.

    Characters

There are a total of five playable characters, three recruitable allies, and eleven boss fights. One of the bosses, Jonnel, can become a playable character, while another, Shie, can become a recruitable ally. One boss character is fought twice in his human and dark form. This character is Dr. DR.

    Playable Characters

    King

    No Caption Provided

King is the main hyperactive protagonist of the game. Though King utilizes the same short sword from the previous games, he is much more skilled with it. King is now able to perform three hit combos compared to his two hit combo in the previous game. His critical hits also allow him to reset his combo from the start, allowing him to extend his options. His special ability makes him the only playable character that can land a critical hit, which triples the damage output. His skill attack is the Final Flame, in which he uses his Fire Jacket to form a flame out of thin air. He also performs this move as an assist character. His smash attack is Crash Wave, where he smashes his sword on the ground to form a powerful energy wave. His Unleash move is Final Fire, where he takes out a Sub Machine Gun and fires it to his opponents. King has the most balanced stats out of every playable character.

    Naira

    No Caption Provided

Naira is presented as a very strange girl who has an obsessive love interest towards Jonnel. She utilizes a pistol as a weapon. Her bullets have no knockback except the last bullet of her basic combo, which is generally stronger. Her skill attack consists of her stunning her opponents with her camera's flash. She also uses this as her assist move. Her smash attack allows her to trip and slide. This is used mostly for utility, as she slides very quickly and anyone standing on her way gets hurt pushed aside. Her ability allows her to recharge her Mernergy Points when it is low. Her Unleash is Cheap Fireworks, where she shoots fireworks up into the sky. These fireworks soon crashes down towards the enemies. Her moves are loosely based of Jonnel, as she was intended to be a viable version of Jonnel. Her stats are balanced, but is slightly more defensive than King.

    Faliyos

    No Caption Provided

Faliyos is a man who struggles from financial problems and his inability to use his other arm. Though Faliyos still suffers from his slow speed, Faliyos is able to fight better in comparison to the first game. Faliyos is now able to perform two hit combos and his counter no longer needs Menergy Points to use. His counter is the only attack in the game that can deal more than 100 HP of damage, where he grabs and throws the enemy. As an assist, he skips the counter process and just throws enemies towards his summoner. His ability grants him invincibility while he dashes towards the enemy. His ice wave from the previous game has been changed for better utility. This ice wave is summoned from a distance, which stuns enemies for a very short period. Faliyos can make this ice wave explode to bring enemies close to him, making difficult approaches easier. Faliyos's unleash is very powerful and is intended more towards defeating a boss than a wave of enemies. Faliyos grabs an enemy so that they can be impaled by an ice spike that comes out of the ground. Its power depends on when the player presses the button. If the meter is maxed out when the player presses the button, Faliyos performs an instant KO as he laughs maniacally. Faliyos is the strongest character in the game, allowing him to kill many common enemies in one hit. His slow speed, however, makes him the hardest character to master.

    Alen

    No Caption Provided

Alen, now a high school student, is a Taekwondo master who shortly quit his practice after realizing how strong he became. Alen can now perform more hits in his basic combo in comparison to the first game. Alen exhibits the fastest speed in the game, with his ability granting him overall faster movement and cooldown times. His smash attack is the Scorpion Kick, where performs three spinning kicks while being upside down. His skill attack is his signature flying kick, where he quickly goes in the air extends his leg, hurting anyone in the way. His Unleash, Crash Collision, allows him to fly all over the screen and damage anyone that bumps into him. This move ends when the player is too slow to press the button on the screen or when the player presses the wrong button displayed. As an assist, Alen performs the breakdancing move called Windmill and hits the enemy multiple times as he spins.

He has a habit of jumping often and is dangerous with his claw attacks. At low health, he utilizes his Black Sailing Wing Down Attack, in which he spins very quickly to impale the player. As the fifth boss, DR retains his habit of jumping often. Since he is fought in his human form as the fifth boss, he does not have his claws. Instead, he attacks with his handgun and with melee. Shie exhibits the ability to shoot many fireballs in a danmaku-like pattern. As an ally, she retains the ability to shoot energy balls. Her melee attack consists of slapping the opponent with a small computer component. This computer component is apparently who she really is, as she is a mere computer program and her body is only a physical projection.
