    Overview

By partnering with NVIDIA and using their PhysX platform, Sony Online Entertainment is using the Forge Light engine to develop all of their future games.

Aside from all the technical and physics-based features, the big thing for most MMO players is that this engine will do away with the use of zones and loading screens once and for all. The worlds of PlanetSide 2 and EverQuest Next will be entirely seamless, accommodating thousands of players according to Sony Online Entertainment's Matt Higby.

According to Massively, Forge Light will allow for “massive seamless worlds, advanced atmospheric effects such as moving lights and shadows, volumetric fog, and even sun filtering through clouds”. The aforementioned atmospheric effects will be taken advantage for gameplay in PlanetSide 2.
