I heard Jeff and Brad talking about Rhythm Tengoku on last week's podcast and I thought at least Brad might find this interesting, since he seems to know a little about Japanese. Maybe more than I do, but I like to talk about Japanese.
天国(てんごく) - Tengoku - Can mean heaven, paradise or maybe even Kingdom of Heaven
The first kanji 天(てん)(Ten) means heaven or sky, since it is also used in the word for weather - 天気(てんき)(Tenki). This is also the character seen on Akuma's back, as Brad correctly identified. When you combine it with 国(こく)(koku), which means country or land, the pronounciation of koku becomes goku and it solidifies the meaning of the previous kanji to make it something like the land of the sky, or simply, heaven.
Hope you found this interesting. =)
