Just listening to the 11-04-2008 podcast (I know, it's my OCD) and at 1:07:30, and Ryan mentions the NXE being a weirdly late in the in life addition to the Xbox (again this is 2008), and Jeff dismissively jokes this might be evidence for the 360 going another 5 years.

Given whatever MS is going to put out for the next gen will probably be in 2013, that's pretty wild especially since the entire Bombcast laughed at the notion...it's true no one ever listens to Cassandra.

Any other prophecies intended or not out there?

I know they missed out on the Starcraft II release, though they might be spot on with the release schedule (every 2 years or so).

11.25.2008 - Keep Lawrence Taylor away from kids.

01.01.2009, 1:34:58 - Dav asks what franchise that will be brought back for 2009 (ala Bionic Commando). Ryan jokes A Boy and his Blob...

Yep. I've noticed a few things that were predicted on the bombcast. I can't pull out any specific examples but I know I went back and listened through the entire catalog of Bombcasts last year and it was fun hearing them talk about things that had actually happened in the future.

In fairness, anyone with connections to the game industry has a tendency to joke about shit they already know about...

Of course, that isn't to say that Ryan directly knew anything about a Boy and his Blob. Sometimes people mention random cool stuff that doesn't get picked up for many years after, but that doesn't stop people from drawing inane parallels.

I love listening to old bombcasts. I keep finding weird parallels between the old ones and what's going on now which kind of shows how cyclical the industry can be.

Not a Bombcast, but does anyone else remember the write-up the guys did after the first and only Giant Bomb April Fools where they mentioned what their other ideas were, one of which would have been a fake announcement stating that Giant Bomb had been purchased by CNET/CBSi/WhateverItWasAtTheTime

Not prophetic, but in whatever Bombcast was when Diablo 3 was first announced back in '08 the guys were speculating and hopeful if Blizzard would have it out by the end of the year. Jeff made a snide remark along the lines of "You guys are crazy. This is Blizzard. It won't be out until 2010."

Jeff did predict the end of Gears of War 3 pretty accurately... Not the part about the story, but the part about Marcus' head-wear.

Every once in a while I'll go back and listen to an old podcast. It is really funny how accurate they are about some things and how dead wrong they are about most things in the future.

Nice catch that's a really funny conversation in retrospect. I know at some point they predicted Activision taking over IW and firing West and Zampella.

They have been in the business long enough that they can predict things on a semi-regular basis. I've lost count of the number of times they've laughingly guessed at something and been completely right. Of course, the same thing happens in reverse quite often...

Yeah, at the end of the game I was totally thinking about that podcast.

There was one a while back about them inventing this pizza ball or something like that and then later I saw a commercial for something very similar.

Sorry for the vagueness

They were very negative about hemp milk before they drank it, then they drank it, and they were right. Scary...

If you convert "bombcast" to numbers the result is: 2 15 13 2 3 1 19 20

2-15+13+2+3+1+19+20 = 45

It is believed that the world will end in 12/21/12

12+21+12 = 45

Can't recall the exact one, but I do recall that exchange....

Though there is also the 08-12-2008 Bombcast at 1:06:00 where they are talking about the bright colors in the various media released about Diablo 3. Brad flippantly mentions...look for Diablo 3 in 2012...

I've been starting from the beginning myself, and since i hadn't heard anything before 2011, it's pretty interesting to hear their opinions on things from 4 years ago. In the last episode i listened to Jeff talked about how he was totally done with Saints Row / early GTA type gameplay (when talking about the upcoming Saints Row 2). And didn't feel there was any merit left to sandbox games where you can just blow shit up.

There has also been plenty of laughter at the idea of the "10 year cycle" for this gen of consoles.

Jeff absolutely nailed the release cycle of StarCraft 2 in a late 2008 podcast. He said he had his doubts they'd be able to get the expansions out yearly and expected releases in 2009, 2011, and 2013. Even still he was a bit too optimistic in thinking the first of the 3 releases would hit in 2009. The crew then went on to speculate that it was totally insane that they were pondering a 2013 release in 2008.

Also Brad or Jeff jokingly said 'So....2012 then?' in relation to a Diablo 3 announcement.

Vinny also thought it was a bit late in the cycle to start planning games with hard drives in mind for teh XBOX 360. They have all repeatedly expressed a lot of doubt about the talk of a longer cycle for the consoles. That one has ended up way off base obviously.

@cthomer5000: Reminded me of an old episode of 1UP Yours where Shane Bettenhausen was worried that Final Fantasy XIII *might* not be out in America before 2007 was over. I would just love to hear the reaction if he could have been informed that it wasn't going to be out until March 2010.
