There's no doubt that there's a ton of good games with a ton of great features in them. However, there must be features that you guys have always wanted in a game, that has never been done, or never been done in a good way.

For me one of these features have always been a good system for rappeling in a open world game. I would love a game in an open world that allows the players to rappel down any building, if there's something to connect a rope to at the roof/balcony/whatever of the building.

Another kinda similar feature is a grappling hook that would essentially work the same way, except that you could climb buildings.

So, what are your thoughts on features that you'd love to see in a game?

@t0ffe: Just Cause 2 kind of lets you do just that, though it's so detached from reality that it might not really be what you're looking for when it comes to rappelling.

I would like to see more destructible structures, like Red Faction Guerrilla had. That game is up there with the Just Cause games for open world mayhem.

The mod package for Liberty City Stories on PSP includes the option to increase and decrease the water level. It's funny to stand on a hill, raise the water, watch all the pedestrians drown and then lower the water again. But there aren't any boats that are fun to drive in Liberty City Stories, so it kind of sucks for turning the city into Venice. Most of the mod package works with Vice City Stories by changing the name. The exception is the raised water level. Apparently they had to redo the water engine to make the jetskis work the way they wanted to and that broke the mod package. I would love to be able to cruise down the streets of Vice City in a jetski.

@hatking: Yeah, but it isn't quite what I want it to be. I would like something more along the lines of 007: Everything or nothing where you still have to climb the rope after it connects. Not sure why I'm against the "pull in"-mechanic. I mean, it's okay in the Arkham-games, but that's because I expect Batman to be pulled up by his grappling-gun.

@mosespippy: That's a really specific pull you made there, but I actually remember doing that. There was something really rad about the entire city being filled with water and made me wish I could do that in games with better boats, and swimming. I saw somebody mod GTA V to be able to do that, but I'm assuming there's a lot more effort involved in doing it on a PS3 or 360 than there was a PSP.

The setting/world to change throughout the game. E.g. You crash into a building it gets damaged and stays like that. Stuff to that effect

Which reminds me of just how much I miss Minecraft Beta 1.6 and earlier. Infinite fire spread was great. If I wanted to clear out a forest I could light one tree. Sometimes I'd go exploring and come across my forest fire 3 days later and a mile from where it started and that was so cool.

A large city with detailed interior environments for every single building, I'm sure we'll get there some day. Proper building damage would be cool too.

I like to imagine a heist mission in a gta game with a vault on the fifth flour of a ten storey building. I could go in there front door, I could sneak in through the basement or I could blow a whole in the wall for quick access

I want Sword Art Online for real. Not just any one part of it, I want the whole thing. Or whatever the real life counterpart of that would be. Full Dive, no magic, 1-1 combat. multi-floor dungeon. The works.

Also Brain Burst.

I want true action combat in an open-world MMO. Vindcitus has the best combat in any MMO by far, but the problem is it's all instanced (think PSO). So, while killing shit can be fun and all, the world ultimately feels lacking. As for pretty much every other MMO in recent memory, they do the open world part, but the combat fucking blows. I mean...some of those combat systems are good as far as MMOs go, but that's not saying much if you ask me.

Why is this in "off-topic," shouldn't it be general discussion?

Anyway, I have always wanted a game with great telekinesis powers, but I don't see how it could be possible. Telekinesis has always been the super power I've thought would be the coolest to have, but it's never been done well in games. Obviously, the "think it and it happens" nature of the power means it could never really be implemented well with any video game input devices. Until we have some sort of neural interface controller, telekinesis will always be a slow and ineffective video game ability when compared to the other options for offensive gameplay abilities.

Okay, you know Doom, right? So, here's my idea: A character creation system in which you can modify the size of your character's liver, anywhere from "kind of small" to "a bit larger than normal". Okay, now, remember how I mentioned Doom? Well, this feature will allow you to survive longer in games without requiring a liver transplant. That's a lie, but you won't know that. As a matter of fact, the slider does absolutely nothing. That's also a lie. It affects item drop frequency. But how? Well, in short, it makes items drop more than they would if you didn't play the game. And if you don't use the liver slider, you can't leave the character creation menu, so really, what are we even doing here? You tell me, because I don't fucking know, man. I'm just trying to pitch this thing. What the fuck are YOU doing with YOUR life, Mr. Judgey? Have you invented a new game mechanic? No? Okay then. So anyway, here you are, with your freshly generated virtual liver, and you're boppin' about stabbing enemies in the ass or whatever it is you do in your goddamn video games, Billy, and you had better have this room clean by the time I come back or your ass is grounded, mister. But yeah, you're running around stabbing enemies, and suddenly BWAAAAAAA you're inside your own liver and depending on how big or small you made it in the character creation screen you'll be in a big or small area that is filled with liver people and you'll talk to them and they'll give you items but none of them matter because you're in a liver not just any liver but your own liver and how is that even possible you'll say and suddenly CUT TO BLACK BECAUSE THE GAME WAS HALF LIFE 3 THE WHOLE TIME HOLY FUCK GABE NEWELL JUST BLEW YOUR FUCKING SKULL wait no it's this stupid ass liver game again fuck it video games are dumb you guys I'm going home.

Edit: Oh shit! COFFEE PHYSICS!

I real ROLE PLAYING game where there is some sort of mechanism to be anything role you wanted. I don't mean like Skyrim where you can half ass craft, mine, or make armor. I mean a game like a Skyrim or Mass Effect where you can run a store just as effectually as you woudl adventure. A role playing game where you can rule a town or a city just as easily as you can learn thing highest rank of dark magic?

I get that it would be impossible to do every role well, but I'd like to see just as many non-adventuring, non-thieving or non-assassinating roles as those other roles. Shop keeper, lord of a castle, armorer, traveling peddler, farmer, city watch officer, owner of brothel or casino, or publisher who hires reporters/printers/newboys to sell a newspaper. There woudl be mission for all those jobs, there woudl be story arcs, there would be systems that make playing those roles 'gamey' where you gain ranks and add perks or abilities, and there woudl be a path form lost orphan/amnesiac to master of an empire for each.

Full body immersion. Not just an Oculus, but other hardware that allowed you to navigate the game with your own body and interact with your own hands. I could see some really amazing stuff come out of that. Unfortunately, I'm sure we're quite a while away from something as all encompassing as that.

Melee combat that... I dunno, works? There's something weird about combat in the first person perspective. Parries, blocking, swipes, stabbing, I want all that but I want it to be fluid. The only solution so far is to map all those things to a separate button, which makes things feel clunky and jerky. I don't have the solution, I just want it.

yeah that problem seems to be compounded the closer in the melee gets. Fisticuffs is even worse and grappling is more or less non existent.

I have no idea how that could ever be fixed, but it would be cool if it was!

I've always wanted a visual representation of bleeding + realistic ballistics for the main character and enemies. The thing is, I already know all of the problems with this when it comes to mechanics and gameplay. I can only imagine that it's a nightmare to program, but Imagine how crazy it would be in a GTA like game.

You engage in combat, you hide behind your car with one of your friends in multiplayer. Then, your friend gets hit, and you have to escape to the hospital. While your friend is bleeding out in the car, you have to drive fast enough to get to the hospital but not to fast because, you don't want to get in an accident and possible kill you and your friend.

That's the kind of intensity I want, but the games that have to come to that level of intensity (DayZ), haven't really succeeded in being fun. I want that Single/Multiplayer game that is fun to play, and realistic enough to make firefights intense.
