Adam Boyes presents the Canadian Videogame Awards

Another CVA has whispered past us. This last weekend, somewhere in a mostly-empty Vancouver conference room, video game developers received awards. Some of you may be interested in the nominees and winners and so here they are. Thanks to Jeff for mentioning on Unprofessional Fridays that Adam Boyes was going to Canada. Totally would have forgot about this otherwise! In 2012 the CVAs got some play in Canucknews because the boys what did Superbrothers took home lots of awards and "indie darlings defeating megacorporations" at awards shows is good news. This year that didn't happen.

Edit: Now that I've actually looked at it, who the hell chose these nominees? Is there like a criteria to be met? Because, a lot of it doesn't make much sense to me.

@winternet: I'd expect the only criteria is that the game be made in Canada.

@winternet@mosespippy Yeah as far as I know they're just made by companies/teams physically located in Canada. Dunno who exactly chooses the nominees. There are 60 "judges" and if they're made up of sponsors then that'd be people like EA, Ubisoft, Capcom and so on.

@mosespippy: @geraltitude: Ok. Kinda weird when there are games, like ACIII, that are made by studios all over the world. And although the "game has to be from a Canadian developer" explains a lot, there are still some crazy stuff in there, like Far Cry 3 for Best Writing, but to each his own.

@geraltitude: The Bard's Tale is on the wiki, this was just an iPad port of it.

Sleeping Dogs got robbed...

Ok. The games needing some kind of connection to Canada means this makes a lot more sense.

@winternet: I'm not sure any Ubisoft games are made in one place anymore and I assume with ACIII "Canadian" is mostly a technicality; probably means >50% of the budget is spent on the Canadian side of the border. But maybe not? I really don't know... According to Wikipedia at least Ubisoft Montreal is the developer of ACIII and there are a number of extra, additional developers. About any of the legitimacy of the awards... yeah. Lol. Don't look at me duder. Lots of weird categories & comparisons at this award show.
