I recently ordered the parts to build a gaming PC for the first time, and was hoping to find a really detailed guide with pictures to make extra sure that I don't screw anything up. Searching has found me some interesting ones but nothing that I feel explains enough. Does anyone know a good guide to follow?

A lot of good stuff there, several multi-hour videos on putting a pc together from parts to POST. Actually built my own to an older video a couple years back. And one of them is actually Jeff's PC- I watched that one for fun. Highly recommend.
Good luck duder!

Yeah these are always fun to go to and I always have them on when I have built PCs. So informative and step by step. You don't need much else except maybe tools for screwing the motherboard.
Check out newegg's videos on youtube. Very useful and very detailed.

Research how to you want to apply the Thermal Paste to the CPU. There isn't really consensus on the best method so don't let that throw you off if you see conflicting recommendations from different guides. I went with the dot method because I thought I could execute it better.
Consider an anti-static wristband if you are uncomfortable grounding yourself frequently or live somewhere dry.
search on youtube for a build using your PC case, I found several for mine and it helps to see the parts go into the actual case you are using.
have Fun!
