As we approach the end of the year, it's hard to play everything that the crew will be talking about during the Game Of The Year podcasts, but we can try!

I mean it's nice to know about some of those, but I don't think they're must plays. Nobody HAS to play Knack 2.

I don't know if Vinny ever played more of it, but I hope that Alex at least brings up Night In The Woods.

They probably aren't gonna discuss Hollow Knight but it totally belongs on the list

Apparently Abby really likes Night in the Woods so much that it's a GOTY contender for her. Alex also is into it, so two passionate people should get it mentioned at least a couple of times, especially for Best New Character and Best Story.

Brad believes Hellblade is a special game, and even if he's the only person on staff that has those feelings, he's also the most vocal, so he'll surely bring it up for numerous categories.

I havent played it, or the expansion, but do we think X-COM 2 will be mentioned for 2017's 2016 Game of the Year.

After watching Exquisite Corps recently, I'm considering an X-COM purchase. But because of the bad press about the release of X-COM 2, I'm leaning toward buying Enemy Unknown/Within. If War of the Chosen has improved X-COM 2 sufficiently, it might get a mench?

War of the Chosen is a vast improvement on the performance issues Xcom 2 had and adds a ton of awesome content. That said, the beginning is a lot harder than Enemy Within so if you want to dip your toe and not get thrown in the ocean during a hurricane you can't go wrong with Enemy Within. Its a great game and a bit more accessible

@topcat88: I don't think it will be because I don't think any of them are really playing XCOM 2

If they add an early access category i would say dead cells will be discussed in some form.

Hellblade will probably be discussed too.

Nidhogg 2 will likely get a lot of consideration in the "Best Styyyyyyyyyyyyyyyle" Category

I kinda feel like most of the games that will be on the GOTY podcasts haven't actually come out yet. Once Sept-Nov are done, then we can talk about games that are must plays. After GOTY is also cool because you can put a list of games you may have missed in 2017 and play them before 2018's heavy hitters come out in early spring, usually at a discount.

The only time I've wished for a bigger MMO guy on staff cause Stormblood is amazing.

I expect Observer to be mentioned.

I could potentially see Tacoma being mentioned briefly for some category and then promptly cut.

I don't know if The Long Dark made any lasting impression on anyone among the crew.

I've updated the list with all your suggestions - anything else we think should be on there? anything we think shouldn't be? This list is really to help us make sure we get to play the games we think will be most likely talked about.

Everybody's Golf in my world, like even if it just gets its due as a mere mention of its name would mean the world to me. It probably won't hold legit weight in that 2017 is celebrated as such a hitmaking year for games, but dammit it's a video-game-ass video game, and to have more of those kind of golf games (and especially in the way they play around with it this time) should be celebrated!
